Nashville TJ's Build - Continued

Budding at best, but hopefully the trend continues so I can do my kitchen myself by Christmas! I am tired of paying people to do subpar work for things I can learn to do.

Counters? Cabinets?

One of my favorite things I read on this forum is "quit paying people to fuck your shit up" because I think it applies to way more than just jeeps

Cabinets, crown, drawers, and some custom ideas of how to use a bunch of wasted space, I gotta pay someone to cut the rock unfortunately. But yes, that 100% applies to more than jeeps. The electricians I had in here completely botched the lighting work and the recessed lights weren't even in a line, despite them cutting a 16' segment of drywall out so they could run the lines and laughing about how "that's what electricians do".

Sorry to distract from your work, Jeff.

Not a distraction at all, Matt. I'm a cabinet and furniture maker as well, so I definitely understand your position. Nothing better than showing off what you have built (it's what we all do here) - and doing a full kitchen is hard core.

You forgot seamstress.

My kitchen took me a year 😑

Originally painted the golden oak cabinets, which was a lot of work in itself. But that led me to finding random holes in the wall behind the upper cabinets, which led me to finding a 1/2" gap between the ceiling sheet rock, which led to a new oven hood which led to new butcherblock counter tops which led to new trim...

Ahem. He is a seamster, not a seamstress. 😉

Funny thing about that, yesterday I was reviewing some resumes and one stood out because a guy had a job titled as an "Industrial sewer" I read it as plumbing but then I see he was sewing garments. He did this for two years.

Those two years kind of stuck out as odd because they didn't fit the other jobs he'd had that were highly mechanical.

I checked his linkedin for more info which there wasn't anything useful but then I see his name pop up in a news story.

Turns out he spent some time in prison and listed his work in the klink as a job.

Sounds like he may have an problem with authority but doesn't mind working in confined spaces?

For us he'd have a problem passing all the background checks our clients need us to do. Nor was he close enough to being what I needed even if that wasn't a big problem.

Also have a big project coming up in Canada and they won't let you in there with a DUI, I assume a 5+ year sentence would be treated the same.

Well, he displayed a certain level of creativity.

This morning I hoisted the cabinets into the frame...

Reinstalled the drawers...

Now, for the top...

Jeff, you may want to hear this part of this video ;)

I did see that. Yellow Haters!

;)

You may recall I bought this thing new off the lot, and got a pretty good deal. I'm convinced it was because it was yellow, and as a result it had sat on the lot for a very long time. I guess no one wants yellow for a daily. For me, it was always going to be a toy - so yellow was perfect.

And now it's green!

I’ve always loved Solar Yellow. Only some automobiles can look good in yellow. Border line supercars like my buddies Emira look wonderful in yellow. TJ/LJ’s too.
