Hi everyone, I’ve changed all the lights on my tj to LEDs and to fix the hyper flash I tried replacing the flasher relay but this didn’t work.
I installed resistors inline with the two front indicators. The one on the passenger side (left side in Australia) is working fine but the one on the right hand side is still getting hyper flash. The connections are good can anyone think of what the issue could be? Thanks

What relay did you try? I used a "Novita Turn Signal/Hazard Warning Flasher LM470" and it solved my hyper-flash problem. It did however create a problem with my touchscreen radio. If I have the dash all the way dim my radio will flash constantly. If I have the brightness all the way up no problem.

Post a photo of the front of your Jeep showing the sides. Not sure if export is the same as domestic for how the side markers are wired. Here in the states, just installing resistors or a turn signal relay doesn’t cut it; you have to do more by rewiring the side markers.

I’ll try a new relay

Would the diode dynamics one work instead of the novita? There are no local suppliers for the novita. Thanks

You’re not going to fix it with a flasher. It is a fundamental problem with how the front turn signal and side marker circuits are wired.

Edit: incorrect, exports are different.

The wiring was all correct prior to installing the new lights and was correct after changing to led, the only issue was the hyper flash. Which was resolved after installing a resistor but only on one side of the car. I can play around with the connection I made when installing the resistor but it is still a continuous series circuit.

I had hyper flash on an old HD, I replaced the standard round flasher (NAPA NF 552) with a new rectangular style Turn Signal Flasher 12V HD 68543-64A VT33-2198, problem solved.

Hi everyone, I’ve solved the issue. The problem was that there was only one circuit for the indicators on the passenger side and two circuits on the other side. I.e. the resistor on only one circuit was not enough. I don’t know if this is the same in America but I find it odd to not have the same amount of circuits on each side.
Thanks everyone for contributing.

Good to hear. I stopped offering advice the other day because I did dig into the FSM a bit and found the export vs domestic are indeed different, and I couldn’t exactly figure out how the export worked so I didn’t want to cause more confusion.

Best I can tell, exports side markers (called turn signal repeaters numerous times) are spliced straight to the front turn signals. The diagram for export showed running lamp circuits too but based on looking at pics of export Jeeps and the side marker bulb housing, I couldn’t figure out where the side marker actually is.

On domestic, they use a single side marker bulb that both stays constant for running lamp and blinks during all turn signaling. It works great but it gets really funky when you install LEDs, so I at first thought that was your problem.

Are there two bulbs per side (not including the front turn buckets) and I’m just missing it in photos?

The LM470 worked with my 2002 "export" had hyper flash in hazard mode mode for first few minutes then seemed to just start working normally, flawless operation for around 5 months now.

we have an extra bulb for amber turning signal and hazards,
