What did you do to your TJ today?

More of a "do with" not "do to", but does lead to an LJ project. I drove Tessie to pick up some needed fasteners at the local hardware so I could finish up a project started about three months ago...

After being stripped of the "rat fur" covering I applied almost 20 years ago when I first built the cab, I leveled the plywood (necessary as a lower grade of plywood was used under the rat fur, it hides more), swapped the flush mount handles for semi-recessed, swapped the feet for casters and re-covered the whole shebang-a-bang-a in some fresh tolex.

Now I can get back to working on Tessie's hardtop refinishing! :D

VERY good Tolexing job!

Fought with Gerry’s doors. I won but all the hinge bushings and two of the pins are done for. End of a couple week effort to get them off. Passenger side came off ok, driver side was racked a little and that misalignment boogered everything up.

Enlisted Kroil, bottle jack, 3 pound hammer, Dremmel, drift, air chisel and drill press in the effort. New delrin bushings and steel pins coming tomorrow.

One of the trashed bushings

We also pulled the passenger seat to replace the seat belt buckle. Kid driving around topless and doorless today.

Been there done that… I remember spending a fair chunk of the day with one door. ( previous owner had had the Jeep almost 10 years and not taken the doors off ever)
My Delrin bushings are holding up well after a fair few years. So much easier to remove doors now

Replaced my old vents with some new ones from Amazon…. My old ones were toast..(fins were missing And no adjustment so they would blow everywhere except where you wanted it 🙄..The old ones at the top of the pic.

I need to find some for my wife's WJ. Hers are broken too. I can't find the passenger side window vent anywhere.

Here's what the TJ did to me today...

Pretty deep cut, probably needed a bunch of stitches, but I had stuff to do. Currently fixed with a gauze bandage and some duct tape, in true meathead fashion.

Nice! I usually use a paper towel and electrical tape.

Opinions on this?
What's yalls Opinion on this axle shaft,I was pressing out the old bearings and found out the P.O of my axle cut a nice groove trying to get the bearing out.....

Well, over the last week and yesterday, I finally got this project done. I kind of dreaded it knowing the prep work involved and that even in the shade here in TN, it was still gonna be hot which made my "work time" with the product a little more tricky. Monstaliner is an amazing product IMO but dang an temp controlled place to apply would've been better. Anyway, scuffed the floor all last week after work, got any rust down to bare metal, applied epoxy primer over bare spots, and took about 5-6 hours on a balmy Sunday to coat. Overall, it looks good enough for what I was after. The color is very close to the dash color. Will find out on our LBL ride on the 4th how it holds up!!

I am wanting to do the same thing. Carpet in mine is beyond shot. Did you roll or spray? How was the odor? Thinking i may do it in my garage.

I rolled it because I knew I wouldn't have the patience to tape everything off to spray. The odor is for sure potent. I was in my dad's shop, both front and back doors open, and like 3 fans going just to keep air moving. One thing I wish I had done different was to have done it when it was closer to 70-80 degrees and less humid. But I never had the free time and then summer hits like it always does.

Couple other notes if using this kit:
Buy more rollers than you think you need. They WILL deteriorate while rolling.
This stuff has a pot life of like 7 hours. Make sure you have the time to work on it with little distractions. I only had to wait like maybe an hour between coats due to temp and humidity.

I understand that. Yea we may wait until fall to do ours. I also would not have the patience to tape everything off lol.

How are they? One of my center vents is missing the fins entirely.

Resale value decreases with people that use bedliner on the floors and ditch carpet. Here in Va, that and flat fenders means rust is trying to be covered up.

Valid reasoning for sure. But this Jeep is rust free on the floors and under aside from some surface rust I had to clean up. Had it been bad rusty, I would have likely gone a different route.

Running around, doing my maintenance items.

Those bushing are TOAST! Steering is slop.

But we got this guy to go on shortly.

Then I started putting on other stuff in the back.

And well.... those bolts are totally shot to :poop:

Whomp Whomp - sad trombone.

Luckily they're just generic M12 x 1.75 bolts so I'll just hit up my favorite bolt supplier, McMaster-Carr where you can totally order that one bolt, but you gotta buy 50 nuts.
