I’ll disagree with a few points in this thread and it’s backed up by IASCA builds if you want to check it out. For SQ, you want to focus on front stage. John at CDT would not disagree.
The winners of sound quality competitions for car audio with have a very nice set of three way components driven by a digital sound processor/amp (no crossovers required) and one or two smallish subwoofers. Having anything besides subwoofers behind you reduces sound quality. The cone surface area of subwoofers is not paramount. Box design is crucial. A nice set of 8” woofers in a properly engineered box will out perform generic 10s, 12s, etc—but you have to pay to play or understand quite a bit about how sound moves. I have two 8s in my Ram that handle 1000wrms each. Most people think I have a high power pair of twelves. It helps that they are sitting in a $1700 enclosure built by Gately audio.
That being said most people could care less about what I just typed, but if you do I’ll have sound system details to come in our TJ build thread.
