My 06 jeep wrangler straight 6 has the following issues:
has been running rough and throwing up the engine code p2302 (ignition coil circuit 1). Replaced the ignition coil and ran ok then started misfiring again and throwing up same code. any advice?
2). The fuel pump fuse randomly blows. I checked the wires and no kinks or anything, dropped the tank and checked the pump seems to be ok. I decided to run brand new wire to the cable running from fuse box. Seems to have solved the issue for time being, question I have is other than fuel pump and kink in wire what else could cause it to blow?

Definitely time to download the FSM for your model year and start continuity and ohm checks...I'd go from the Power distribution block under the hood to the fuel pump connector.

Do you have the original PCM? If so you might want to start a conversation with @Wranglerfix about whether this might be a PCM issue.

Is definitely clean up battery terminals...check battery voltage...clean grounds like the one on the engine block, firewall and behind both front speaker covers and driver's kick plate.

Might want to pull the PCM Conn and check for corrosion.

I checked all the continuity and ohm didn’t seem to find any issues.. I only changed the wire as I’d rather change the wire than the fuel pump and still have an issue. Will update over next few days as to if the fuse blows again.

Yes original PCM. I did have an issue where the car would hard shift from 1-2 from a cold start, would happen 3x then not again. Read a little on another thread about it being the PCM causing that issue in the 05/06 wranglers. Reset it and it goes away. So that might be what also causing the ignition coil issue…

I will check the grounds and battery terminals and pcm connections later today and update.

The hard shift from 1st to 2nd when cold is pcm failure. The p2302 code could also be the pcm. Look at the date on the battery. If over a year old, ever died or don’t know its history, we recommend changing it.

Hi - just want to update so the thread doesn’t die unanswered. My conclusion:

1. The fuel pump issue - dropped the tan pump looked fine. Tried to check as much of cable as possible, no chaffing found…. I decide to just run a new cable from relay all way to the pump. I used bullet connections and left original wire with bullet connection also (incase wanted to check or swap…). I then replaced the relays just to be safe… it’s been a month now and I haven’t had a single issue with blown fuses or car just cutting out randomly. So I consider this issue fixed.
2. The hard shift and misfiring ignition coil - I replaced the ignition coils and still getting same issue. It’s periodic. Seems to be when I hit breaks hard but also is very random. I normally pull off road and restart engine and it goes back to normal. The hard shift is also occurring randomly. Based off responses to this thread and other research I believe it’s all related to PCM. @Wranglerfix I will be in touch at end of the month to buy one. I never changed the battery as it was only 10 months old… but still considering it.

Thanks to all for the advice and help!

Thank you for your business and we look forward to hearing from you once you get the computer up and running!

Hi all - installed pcm yesterday. Just took it for a drive. No hard shift and seems to be able to get up to speed quicker. On that front I think I’m sorted.

However still having issues with misfiring and still throwing the p2302 code. Will update over the following days, but guessing the misfiring isn’t pcm related.
