Hi all. I have a 2003 tj. I have a noise originating in the rear that sounds/feels like a tire rubbing the wheel well. Tires are not too big. I’ve had the rear end reuilt due to worn out pinion bearing. Break job two months ago. Noise only seems to happen with sharp turns and usually after being in reverse. Previous owners had the transmission rebuilt. Any advise is appreciated! I think I’m renaming it Theseus at this point.

Sounds like you could have some worn out bushings that is allowing the suspension to get cocked sideways .

It doesn’t sound like a bad bushing. More like a mud grip rubbing or a gear mis mesh

But you say it sound like a tire is rubbing.

If your bushing are shot it could lead to the axle getting cocked sideways a little. The directional forces on a pulling axle are different than a pushing or trailing axle.

It's an easy place to start. Back up like you are recreating it and have a look.
