Car pics too cool not to share

Never know how many of them could have a LS swapped in under those huge hoods... I've seen ones with a roots huffer stuffed under the hood & you'd never know it was there.

But NOTHING wrong with a old school SBC.... 350 & a 400 crank... Makes a nice 383 stroker. Some aftermarket aluminum heads and a MPI F.I. intake manifold with Holley Terminator or MegaSquirt ECM...

DOuble humper pumper heads!!!

Pre-V6. Time for an upgrade! ;) :D

Just stick with a first year fleetside with a 283 small block.

DOuble humper pumper heads!!!

"Double hump" or "fuelie" heads, a term referring to a specific type of Chevrolet small-block cylinder head, are characterized by raised identification marks on each end of the head, resembling two humps, and were popular for their performance in high-performance applications

What is special about double hump heads?

Chevrolet Double-Hump Cylinder Heads - Circle Track Magazine

They are among the best stock heads ever allowed in racing, they are still relatively plentiful in junkyards and machine shops and they don't require a lot of machine work to make ready for racing service. These heads got their nickname because of the raised identification shape on the each end.

Double pumper is a carburetor...BTW...

I assume you copy & pasted that because they are fairly hard to find now and relatively expensive when you do find a decent set. Mostly a collector/resto thing now. I think it's Speedway who offers a "double hump" in aluminum now, but with "improved" runners. Days of the "double hump" are long gone. Almost all off the shelf after market heads will match or wildly beat them. Even the stock 5.7 Vortec heads will out flow them.

Yes, copy & paste... Plus having a FLASHBACK... I was 16 again and buying that dual quad intake with 2 Carter carbs & a pair of double humps.... I'd gone into the junk yard for a new transmission.... I'd blown up the stock 3 speed (3 on the tree) so was buying a truck 4 speed to replace it with. They had the intake and heads sitting on the counter... Made me a deal for everything.... $175

My dad about flipped when I carried out the heads first.. Was like, um son that isn't a transmission... I just smiled... He really got into the dual quads when I brought them out to the car. Cutting the hole in my trucks hood was FUN.

Stick around here for a while and you'll learn more...

But a lot of the older terms aren't mentioned a lot anymore due to the move to F.I. and computers...

You should see some of the stuff we used to do to a carburetor to make it Off-Roadable... No more fuel slosh & raised breathers...

Or you could use a quadrajet I feel it was the best V-8 offroad Carb. ever !

Yes they were... But I seem to remember calling them Quadrajunk when I was a teenager.

The modifying carbs for Off-Road was when I ran a Suzuki and was working on Weber's...

I had better luck with the Edelbrock carb for off-road in later years.

My dad asked me once if I have to adjust anything in my jeep when I go to like 10k'. I think he used to wheel some old land cruiser back in the day

Yeah the "among the best ever" description expired about 35 years ago. But they remained popular as what guy doesn't appreciate double humps?

The Edelbrock/AFB's work pretty good with the off road needle and seat kits.

Well some of us were driving and shaving 35 years ago so it was relevant... But I should have noted that it was dated data.... My bad.

I was thinking about this kinda the other day.

A "boob" is a bad thing, like an idiot. But, "boobs" are good. So it's gotta be the double?

If it was carbureted then Yep he did... You adjusted the jets.

Yes and no , I drove for decades daily going from 5200' - 9052' . It's not like I stopped and re-jetted on my way home from work everyday . The Blazer and K-20 ran just fine.
If you stay at a certain elevation , then it makes sense to re-jet , my ATV and snow blower are re-jetted to 8000'- 10,000' .
