I’m ready to melt the gawd damn snapped shock bolt. First one came out like a beaut. Second the bolt head spun right off. Now I’m playing drill baby drill on this rear shock change.
Good morning folks. Not necessarily today but the last few days I've started the basics on my new to me 2002 TJ sahara with 136k on her. Plugs , coil rail, air filter , oil change & filter, thermostat and new housing, steering stabilizer, front shocks... those front shocks made the arms feel like jello this morning. I greased all the zerks I could find thus far. I have the rear shocks on deck for today and have the trans filter and lube sitting on the work bench. All stock minus the aftermarket rims, no lift which I'm the odd ball, I like the ride height as it is. Have the notorious fender rust starting to show so those will come in time. Diff fluid swaps in the plan as well as transfer case. Always good to know what other 100plus mile maintenance should be done so if I missed items send me a message!

Hehee nope.....or maybeDo I smell an axle listed for sale soon?
I just finished regearing to 4.56 from 3.73 in my ‘06. She’s a 2.4l with the 6 speed. Did it myself.
Man, she drives awesome now.
It was tough, but mainly because I’ve never done it before. Bought a few specialty tools and the Yukon gear set way cheaper than the $2200 I was quoted. And now I’ve got the tools for when I can swing lockers.
I’m very stoked. Wish I’d done this sooner.
Buying the tools and trying to do this is something I've always wanted to do. The older I get, the less I don't want to do a whole lot myself, mainly because I'd rather spend the time with my kids and wife; yup I still enjoy her company, sometimes, after 16 years. I can't justify it since a good friend has an off road shop and does it for cost.I just finished regearing to 4.56 from 3.73 in my ‘06. She’s a 2.4l with the 6 speed. Did it myself.

Speaking of
What did it cost to regear? I have a 2003 2.4 with a 5 speed and a gobi roof rack and tent. It really struggles in 5th gear on the highway tbh.
The $2200 estimate you got wasn't bad. Granted the shop had the equipment, but you did learn a skill. Here's what it costed me. Let's pretend it says RGA and not Yukon, and I didn't get screwed on the Yukon gears. Have I mentioned I hate Yukon? Because I ended up installing RGA.

I guess you need to add another 50$ or so for 2 diff refills but a decent estimate.
I didn't end up using the crush sleeve eliminator. I did get lucky (?) getting a bad clamshell puller from amazonia.

Machined wrong like the plug piece wont fit in the tube? Thats how mine was, and i just picked it up from my machist buddy earlier today after he machined the inside diameter of the tube. Putting 4.88 revolution gears in mine now.

Honestly that doesn’t seem terrible! Apparently the guy that builds the axles for grave digger is around me up in NY. I might have to consider regearing, it’s painful to be stuck cruising at 60 mph![]()
My buddies shop charges $2500 for a full regear and bearing replacement for 2 axles.I had a bunch of quotes written out, all around 3500$. And that was pre-COVID so I can only imagine what they cost now out here
Yep exactly lol. VEVOR by chance??
