Morning update. 17 deg. Snow is dry difficult to even make a snow ball let alone a snowman. The roads are closed but not for jeeps LOL. will attempt it a little later.

You're getting all my cold weather.... It's been cold up here which is rather normal for this time of year but we haven't gotten any snow since X-mas. And it was actually in the 40's & low 50's for a few days so most of our snow melted but then refroze and is now mostly ice.

Stay warm & safe in this weather.

Maybe eventually 37s. The guy said he ran them on his TJ and now has gone to tons. I have been looking for a dana 30 but with all I would need to upgrade for I would be over halfway of these axles.

Dana 60 rear & HP44 front 8 lug is 69.5" wide or close to that... Run some 6" back space rims to suck the tires in a little bit...
You'll need to regear to 4.88 or 5.13 even with your V-8.

Downside to that would be hubs sticking way out where they could get damaged

here is what is driving me for a new axle. There is/was damage to the driver side LCS mount, I welded and straightened it up, but the axle tub leaks at the differential. Previous owner had some sort of accident or hard landing etc...
After my engine swap, rebuilding my 46re, installing a sye in the 242, and installing a lunch box locker in the current LP dana 30; under acceleration with the TC in 2 Hi the front will still engage. I take off from a light and the front tires will chirp. It will do it at different times even at higher speeds, it will pull to one side or the other. while braking I can hear the lunchbox chattering, and while turning under all conditions the lunchbox chatters. I thought about going to manual locking hubs but even when they are on sale that is still 1200 bucks.

Is this a driver or destination wheeler? Without larger tires and a pretty large cash infusion to upgrade or narrow the axles don't make sense in my opinion.

Pull the diff cover and see what's going on with your lunchbox. There should be clearance and operation specs for it.

Pull the carrier and you could check to see if the housing is straight?

There's always trade offs to the things we do... Since his isn't a serious rock crawler it was an option.

I wonder if something got bent?

Or if there is something going on in 242 to make it think it's under power all the time? I'm guessing you're having this problem when it's in 3WD & not AWD?

The axles sold pretty quickly, i missed or avoided that opportunity lol.

I got under the jeep this weekend and started looking at the Transfer Case cable and realized that I could not get it long enough to let it shift out of 4 part time into 2wheel hi. This is a 242J transfer case. I had to shorten the TC lever by half inch. now it shifts into all positions easily. I need to do a little more adjusting. I really do not know how long I have been driving in 4 wheel part time, which is not advisable for dry pavement. 🫣 thankfully I did not do any damage to the TC however that will explain a lot of the tire chirping and ware.

The NEXT set that come available...

I'd never heard it said that you couldn't run it in AWD before on drive pavement just that it would burn a lot more fuel than if it was in 2WD HI...

I'm glad you found the issue and figured it out... I can see why you were having handling issues with the auto locker in the front & being in AWD...

you thought about it as I did.
Part time 4 is not for pave/ dry conditions as it locks the front and rear driveshafts to equal output.
full time 4 allows the front and rear drive shaft to rotate at different speeds. the transfer case acts as an open differential axle basically

I thought the shift pattern on a 242 was 2HI-4HI AWD-4HI-N-4LO so if you couldn't get it into 2Hi wouldn't have it in been in 4HI AWD?

yes it was in 4 (HI AWD) part time, but again it does not allow slippage between drive shafts like it would have in full time 4 wheel. it didnt do any damage i just read that it is not recommended. it still was in the 1:1 ratio so it wasnt much of a problem
