What did you do to your TJ today?

I gotcha. Pulling the complete housing will be easier on you then laying up under it trying to complete the work. I’m sorry but I'm not an ARBoligist so I don’t have any insight on that.
I would assume though that if the housing isn’t completely trashed that it could be rebuilt.

Hopefully it will not be required, as a backup I can easily put in a pickup and take it to Hooper Rear Ends 12 miles from me

Is there a specific trail, or just Bell Mountain in general?

it's not a trail ride. but it's a really steep paved road and the views from the top are amazing ! give me a minute and I'll add some pics.

That is awesome! I watched a yt vid a few minutes ago... That road is narrow and steep! That would be a challenge in a stick, especially if you had to stop on the way up to make way for someone coming down!

Both my TJ's are stick. It ain't that bad coming down. Seriously you want to go there. And it's not that narrow.

Are all those stress cracks normal in that first pic? Looks concerning to me but I'm not familiar with the part.

Lol, it's a lot of casting imperfections. Seems common on aluminum and they look the same now as 2 years ago when I got into it. I figure if it still leaks that might be the cause. I do have a spare housing should I need it.
On second thought, maybe it would justify the Rubicrawler!

this weekend my buddy and I did rear brakes on my LJ. Found out the reason the parking brake didn’t work is because it was GONE. No shoes, pins, springs, nothing. So much for doing one side by looking at how the other side is put together.

Also found out the replacement arms I had were mismarked.

Good news is brake hoses seemed in good shape. They’ll stay in spare pile until needed.

Pressure bleeder made quick work of the caliper replacement.

Used the time while it was on the big jackstands to figure out next steps on the rust beast. Control arms. And since I’ll have suspension pulled apart, might as well put on a lift and some sway bar disconnects.

Finished up painting the front driveshaft and shovel:

Pulled out the old TC morphodite contraption - with a little help from two of my friends:

Replacement goes in tomorrow - I looked it up, I bought this back in March of 2022 as it was on sale then:

The removal went pretty much as every account and yootoob video said it would - with the exception of those damn threaded inserts on the bracket that's bolted to the transmission tunnel - three of the four spun out of their rubber holders, so a pair of "Vice Grips" (Lever Wrench) held them in place well enough to get the stupid bolts out.
