Sure this has been answered several times before, but the search function is not giving me the answer. I'm swapping in a HP Dana 30 to replace the factory low pinion. Regearing at the same time and hoping somebody can give me the torque spec for the pinion nut. Online I am finding anything from 150ft lbs to 220 ft lbs.

Thanks in advance.

160-200 is fine. The HP30 uses shims instead of a crush sleeve so anywhere in that range is fine. Use red loctite too. When setting your preload, tighten the nut to what you plan on using for final torque and stay consistent with that. That will ensure it stays the same when you do your final setup. I've seen many preload specs change because it was tightened to a higher spec for final. That has the potential to increase the preload.

That’s a good answer, my existing torque wrench only goes up to 150lb ft and I have ordered a bigger one. That answer justifies the expense 😅

Any idea why the LP is crush sleeve while the HP is shims?

Effing engineers. They don't make these things for us aftermarket crowds. They make stuff that will be easiest to put together on an assembly line. Lot of different axles use shims or collapsible spacers. It just depends on how the engineers designed it for a particular axle.
