So i’ve been looking to beef up my rear dana 35 and wanted to get a super dana 35 issue is i’m having trouble understanding the whole spline situation, when I get a super dana 35kit am I getting the one from revolution that has a 30 spline?, would I be able to just install the super35 30 spline onto it or like i’m not sure how the process would go because i’m not sure what exactly im changing, i don’t know if i’m changing gears or like etc, i’m running 33s on stocks rear everything i’m gonna need help

Great decision on both installing a Super 35 and for getting it from Revolution Gear.

Your Dana 35 came from the factory with carbon steel 27 spline axle shafts which have a small diameter. The Super 35 kit includes larger diameter 30 spline axle shafts (and new bearings etc.) that are made from a stronger heat treated 1541H steel. They're significantly stronger than what the factory installed and even slightly stronger than what comes in a Dana 44 axle.

The larger diameter 30 spline shafts won't fit into your existing differential since its shaft openings are for smaller diameter 27 spline shafts. So you need a new 30 spline differential which will be a 30 spline locker. You have your choice of several 30 spline lockers that are suitable for use inside a Dana 35 which include the Eaton E-Locker which is electrical and turned on/off with a switch, the ARB Air Locker which is operated by a small air compressor, or a Detroit Locker which is an automatic locker and purely mechanical. My personal choice would be the E-Locker.

The only part of the install that requires care is making sure the "backlash" of the new locker is the same as what you have now. So before removing your differential you (or the shop) needs to determine what your backlash is. Backlash is the amount of "slop" between the ring & pinion gears and it is adjusted, if needed, by slightly moving the new locker left or right with small thin shims until the backlash is the same as what it was with the old differential. Odds are good the new locker will not change the backlash enough to worry about or require any changes to the shimming. Installing the new axle shafts is easily done, no worries there.

If your Ontario location is in Canada, and I assume it is since you're a trapper by occupation, I'd go for either the Eaton E-Locker or ARB Air Locker. Those lockers can be turned on or off whenever you need them on or off. The automatic Detroit Locker basically stays locked most of the time which would be a very bad choice on icy roads or trails as it would tend to slide a lot on ice. The E-Locker and ARB Air Locker would both excel in all conditions including icy or dry.

I put a Super 30 and 35 kit in my 97 and regeared to 4.88s on my journey to 35 inch tires. Love the Eaton E-lockers. I have onboard air now...but the e-lockers don't have seals that fail and prevent the locker from actuating.

Like Jerry said, the Super 35 uses a larger 30 spline axle shaft, which requires a 30 spline carrier and corresponding carrier bearings. Outside those 3 items, all other parts of your axle will be standard Dana 35 parts i.e. the wheel bearings, gears, seals etc.

Which, arguably are not terrible when properly adjusted.

They only bother me when I have to work on them. :LOL: Luckily, my Jeep has been relatively maintenance free in that respect.

I've got a manual and had a bad problem not using the brakes much going backwards... essentially defeating the self adjust...I've been much more conscious about engaging the brake when backing up.

The wheel bearings are the same, even given a larger diameter axle shaft?

Yes, or at least I'm 99% sure. The factory 27 spline axle tapers down twice between the outer bearing surface and the splines. The 30 spline axles shaft is a straight stick.

You are correct. Dana 35 30 spline on left and 27 spline on right.

We've got one (Ox) on my wife's JK 44s. It's interesting in that it comes with it's own cover. Essentially acts like a transfer case or transmission and has an internal fork to engage the locker. You purchase the locker then select what actuator you want...can get a cable shifter with a knob, and air solenoid or electric solenoid/linear actuator. We went electric...so essentially a cable runs out the cover, over the axle to a actuator box mounted to the tub. Bonus it comes with a "drive home" actuator...you unscrew the cable, screw in the actuator and it engages the locker...so if shit all goes wrong you have a nuclear option.

So if i’m out shopping, I’m looking for the Eaton E locker?, a 30 spline limited slip differential locker thing, and the Revolution Super 35 kit

Basically a Super 35 kit will come with the locker of your choice.

Call Revolution... they'll set you up.

When I bought mine, Revolution was no longer offering the Eaton E-locker. Maybe they have it again? I sourced mine from West Coast Differential. I highly recommend West Coast Differential for the Eaton E-locker, carrier bearings and shims.

The locker is an Eaton unit, so you're good to go there. Personally, I’d want to know who made the bearings, but those are cheap enough to replace that it's not a dealbreaker. I prefer Koyo or Timken. As to the axles, I'm familiar with the brand, but have no experience with them. They state these are 1541H, so that's all good. Overall, it looks like a decent package, but you should see what others say about the axles.

Also, look through my thread I posted for the little items you will need, like a specific C-clip.
