Flat tow devices don't depend on the bumper, their mounting bolts only pass through the top of the bumper to the frame inside the bumper. Only the safety chains attach to things like your shackle tabs in front.

So ExtremeTerrain is doing it wrong in this video? @2:30 the guy is showing mounting the universal bracket on the bumper with a backing plate on the inside of the bumper, no mention of tying into the frame. They go ahead and use the D ring mounts, are they usually bolted into the frame somehow?

I would suggest investing in a quality Tow Bar if you plan on towing often.
Rock Jock makes these brackets so at least it’s frame mounted.
I wouldn’t tow off the Shackle mounts especially off a cheap China Bumper.
(Hanson does make a nice stout bumper though)
looking at the bumper it’s pretty stout. It has 6 bolts holding it and the metal is 3/16 and the eyes are welded on both sides. The problem is they are only 1/2”. Thanks for the replies.
