Hi

I have a 1997 TJ, in Sweden
I had some light bulbs in the instrument cluster and center console out. So I replaced these today, no issues doing it.
But after putting the instrument cluster back it does not work.
When I turn ignition on the warning light test works as normal, and turn indicator light and so works as i should as well. So all indicator lights seem to work.
But all gauges is dead and the odometer is complacently dead as well.

Anyone have any idea what could have append and how to fix it?

If I can't fix it, it seem very difficult to find a used instrument cluster for a TJ here in Sweden. Wranglers are uncommon here.
I looked around and it seems like the cluster in 1997-1998 Jeep Cherokee looks very similar. Cherokee is much more common here and I can by a used cluster from a Cherokee. But the question is if it will work? Anyone know?

Many thanks in advance from northern Sweden

I would start with the simple stuff. Take the cluster back out and make sure the wiring harness connectors are firmly seated. Leave the cluster out until you find the culprit...it's got to be something simple since it worked before you changed the bulbs.

I took it out several times, cleaned the connectors and went through the harness.
I looked that the wiring diagrams and measured the power supply to the cluster and it works. As I see it at least voltage and digits on the odometer should light up when on power. So my guess something happened in the cluster it self?

eBay?it would be nice to try another, make sure to check every fuse.

Maybe stating the obvious here.. Did you replace the bulbs with LEDs? They have polarity. Is it just the backlights that no longer work?

Never mind.. I just re-read your post.. the speedo and tach are defunct. Any time I pull the cluster I put a tiny dab of dielectric gel on end each pin before reassembly. That's an easy remedy to try..

And again.. never mind

I just realized you bought a replacement and problem is solved. Caffeine hasn't kicked in yet. Sorry.

All secure here in sector seven... carry on.
