Novak Conversions Jeep Wrangler TJ engine mounts

Operation Phoenix

Engine is pulled... waiting for it to get cooler and then cutting off the mounts on the 97... motor in soon.

Quirk of the 97... it's square...99 has that arched bump out. Doesn't affect anything.

Edited footage this morning before work.

Steering mid shaft bracket was in a different spot. Cut it and moved it.

Motor mounts moved, burned in and painted. Engine is home.

Motor mounts are pretty hashed. Will call Brown Dog on Wednesday and see what overnight shipping is like.

Packing my pyro gear and headed out at 5 am to La Pine OR to work all day tomorrow. I'm assisting my neighbor with loading and firing an entire show.

Back at it hard on Wednesday.

Mid afternoon update...Barnes brackets should arrive soon.

Front axle and all accoutrements installed on the 99 frame. Power steering attached and torqued. Sway bar. Uppers and lowers are snug but not tight.

Engine mounts aren't behaving. Other than being old and hashed it's like the engine is in sideways. Brown Dog custom builds on order and has a minimum two weeks lead time and doesn't offer overnight shipping. Tried using a rachet strap to pull things around... thinking of leaving the outer shell bolt snug but not tight and starting the engine...some of them just find their way home.

Rear axle next...then driveshafts and exhaust.

She'll be running tomorrow.

Bedrug arrives Friday.

No Barnes brackets until tomorrow.

96 degrees out and progress was brutal.

Couldn't find the donut seal for the exhaust...I'll grab one tomorrow.

Ripped apart both dashes. Removed the wiring harness and speakers from my 97. Going with the 99 dash because it's not completely rusted. Pulled off all the plastic and wiring and HVAC ducting and primed and painted the metal substructure...cut the speaker brackets when I realized I needed to do so for my speakers.

Getting up really early tomorrow to take advantage of the cool.

VIN is the 99 if anyone is curious and wanted to find it's history.

Dash and my 40 plus custom accessories wire harness installed and cleaned up and better labeled. Cut wires replaced with spade connectors.

No sign of Barnes brackets.

Called Napa and my wife's going to pick up a new exhaust donut seal for the headers to down pipe.

Exhaust, front driveshaft next... brackets for rear axle, get that installed, rear driveshaft...then tub and plug in wiring and battery and test fire.

Heading out to do the gas tank now. Needs a lil straitening.

Ok...we have a roller.

Rear axle upper driver bracket replaced. Assessed the other three and they appear to have no damage. Might drop the axle at some future point...I have the brackets. Had to drive to town to get them...FedEx delayed delivery until tomorrow. Everything bolted in...uppers, lowers, sway bar and track bar.

Exhaust reinstalled. Cut off and rewelded the CAT to transmission hanger so it wouldn't bind.

Could have welded the rear Hooker exhaust together but decided I like being able to unbolt it.

Fuel tank reinstalled. It's normally a PIA but when you bend everything it was an epic wrestling match.

Driveshafts tomorrow...made a deal with my family to have all hands on deck tomorrow at 9 am to put the tub back on.

Then I'm going to plug in the engine harness and steering wheel and verify ignition.

That works and I have a couple days to button everything up.

We leave Monday morning at like 4 am.

Drove it back and forth across the driveway on three chunks of 2x6 and an old towel.

Radiator, fenders and grill all installed. Brakes bled. Body mount bolts torqued.

Bedrug and Black Max shocks arrived.

Tomorrow seats, windshield hood, front bumper... bonus if I can get the sliders installed and fenders.

Exhausted. Can't feel my hands.
