Please Learn From My Lack of Proper Insurance Coverage (Please Read)

I guess my point was that I wouldn't claim anything that happens off road. And if I drive it on-road to hit some trails, it would be nice to have the proper coverage for the value of the Jeep.
Exactly. My whole reason behind it was the simple fact that if my LJ would get totaled, regular insurance would screw me. At most I would get $20K for it if I was lucky. When in reality a rust free, sub 50K mile LJR sells in the ballpark of $25 - $35K now days.

It sucks man but I would just file through your own insurance company. You are more likely to get closer to what you need back from your own insurance company.

An insurance company is there to make a reasonable offer based current market value no fully replace what you have as much as that sucks. That is what they would consider making you whole.

Getting a rental will not pressure the insurance company into settling faster. They can just cancel your rental after so many days if you both can't agree on payment. I doubt an attorney would take this unless there is physical injury and the insurance doesn't necessarily owe for your attorney fees. There just isn't much money in it. You could get them to send a letter but it's likely a waste of your time and money.

Try to find comps as best you can but that is hard to do on a highly modified rig through a third party insurance company where you dont have receiptsfor purchases that you made towards the vehicle and recently. Your insurance company will work with you more than Progressive will. Then subrogate what they can after the fact.

Most policies cover off road damage but not racing. If they didn't then as soon as you left the pavement careening into the woods there would be no coverage. I am not sure how Hagerty wording is laid out though as that is a special policy.

In my head any appraisal process would want receipts to get a ground basis, which is fine by me. I've been on the hunt for someone to appraise it and will follow up soon.

But it would be nice to a written quote from an appraiser to fight the insurance adjuster with.
The other driver is responsible for for the damage. His insurance is responsible for up to what ever is the max listed on his policy. If you can prove worth then I would hope all would be settled. What are the actual repair costs? Can the frame be straightened?

Insurance companies are fun to work with. I had avoided a lawyer for awhile after an accident where I got injured and they would stall stall and then, since they knew I was a student at the time, had all kinds of demands right at finals week, which was like 4 months after the incident and I couldn't walk without crutches, so life was a little chaotic. At that point I got a lawyer.

Does anyone here have Hagerty? Just noticed this on their page for Jeeps…

I have Hagerty. I had to spell out exactly what parts are my jeep and suspension height, tire size etc... I also already had a policy for my classic car so this was just adding a second vehicle. They didn't question it at all. I have seen people get denied though and they usually were new customers without a current policy.

Guess I’d have to give them a call to find out. The online quote for my jeep at 40k coverage was less than I pay now and I would be in the same boat as OP if totaled.

Yeah, when I switched, Hagerty was only like $100 more a year than I was previously paying. I was happy with that for the coverage and piece of mind.

Thanks for this... Really sorry that happened to you, but this is kinda the motivation I needed. I posted about ways to insure a modified Jeep but haven't followed through. Now I'm determined to get better insurance before it gets back on the road. I really hope you end up not getting screwed by insurance.
You are welcome, if it motivates just one person to get their shit right, goal achieved.

Things happen appreciate your sincerity. Just make sure you read your policies word by word and ask questions. Make sure that your parts, time, and labor paid are covered and can be recovered with confidence.

My experience was similar. I was adding my Jeep to an existing policy and they wanted to know 1) is the vehicle lifted, 2) stock engine or swapped, 3) where I would be storing it. (my answers are 3-4" lift, stock engine, and beside my other car(s) on the policy)
I had no issues adding m Jeep.

Spoke with Hagerty on the phone. They will cover up to $26700 without any receipts or itemized lists and for me this would be cheaper than my current insurance. I would like to try to get higher coverage so will need to work on making an itemized list.

They don’t consider labor towards the agreed upon value.

So if I call them up, I could tell them I think my Jeep is worth $20k (mods being included in that assessment) and they will insure it at that valuation without any receipts?

Did you tell them your jeep is lifted? I think people just want to know what they said yes to. By comparison to another user's experience where Hagetry said they WILL NOT cover lifted jeeps.

I told him it had 4" lift and 35" tires and all he cared about was 4" lift and that it was garaged.

I dont think they want to cover jeeps if its your DD. I told them 4000 miles a year.

I just switched to them after I finished a bunch of work. I told them my replacement value was 25k, and I sent them pics of my 2in lift, 33s, winch and hitch. I called and spoke to two different people and they said they didn't consider it an extreme lift until I was in 3.5-4in range and that occasional off roading was OK. I asked two different reps about about DNR trails and pay to play OHV places and they said as long as I wasnt rock crawling I was OK. Proof will be if I ever need to file a claim but better initial response than state farm.

I just went through the online quote for my lj at $20k. It was about $486 a year driving less than 4k a year with 84k on the odometer. It didn't ask about a lift. This is the modifications part of the online quote questions. I don't know if there are additional questions after binding the quote.

They told me as long as you are in their range of values with Concours being the highest they will accept it.
