I am new to this group, having just acquired a 2006 wrangler. I have been a mechanic since 1978, and I think I can say without doubt, that the wiring harness quality on this wrangler is the worst I have ever seen. I hope Chrysler has done a better job on the newer models. Most of the wiring under the dash is unprotected and poorly routed, inviting chaffing and shorts against sharp edges. Unforgivable shoddy production, especially in a vehicle expected to operate offroad in remote locations. If I was planning any serious offroading, I think I would consider removing the entire harness and inspecting every single inch of wire, then cover it in proper protection.

My older 97 is much better...not that that's any consolation.

And one of the reasons why I consider mostly the 97... maybe I'll include the 98 and 99...as the best TJs.

I’m not saying it’s wonderful by any means, but I haven’t seen many people with dash harness issues over the eight years I’ve been here.

More prominent has been the PCM’s, particularly in the ‘05-06.

My 2006 LJR wiring loom is just falling to pieces.
My 99 TJ looked great but was sold last year.
Appears at least the 2006 harness looms are trash. I’ve been replacing the the loom on the LJ with grey striped automotive grade loom as time permits.
