Why do people blur out license plate numbers?

Well there are 3rd party companies that will give you the info for a fee. A car collector once told me he doesn't allow anyone to take cell phone pics of his collection at his house because if they end up on the internet a potential thief could learn the location in the metadata or from the plate number.

Thief?! What he really means is the IRS... oh... wait... they are thiefs. Carry on....

My vehicles aren’t in the same state as the vehicles reside. You drive on public roads where anyone can see and photo graph your plate. Do you circle around and check if someone is following you before you park at home or anywhere else? I use the Water Buffalo technique. Probability says the other guy will get eaten first.
