A bigger risk for some might be the location data from the photo. A car collector I know won't allow anyone to photograph his collection at his home with a cell phone for fear it will get posted on the web with the exact location contained in the metadata for anyone to look at.

A lot of SLR cameras also have GPS capability.

I strip the GPS location from all my pics before posting. I don’t know if they would even survive the upload to a forum but better to be sure.

I believe that on *this* forum, the EXIF and IPTC info is stripped when you upload a photo. I don't know if @Chris turned that on, or if it's just built in to the hosting software.

We had one attempt at that made on us a few years ago. (small business) Since we operate in a field that requires state board licensing, this person filed a formal complaint accusing us of being and/or behaving in a racially bias manner. In the end, her claim was so blatantly false the investigator only asked a couple of questions and said bye. About a year later we get a certified letter stating no fault, case closed. The bigger issue is that took just over a year complaint to closure. I talked to a lawyer who specializes in this field, and he said one out of three complaints at that time was the same scenario, and why it was taking a year to get through the system. So yeah, that's another reason I try to obscure my identity online.

I’m very similar there. Even though I’m a teenager still, I’ve never had social media, and never post pictures of myself online. Birthdays are almost always fake as well…
