Which one of these TJs would you choose?

D none the above. I hate anything newer than 2000 and prefer a 97-98.

I have the build sheets for all of them.

#2 has the Dana 44, 3.73 gears and limited slip diff. Owner replaced the steering stabilizer, trying to fix death wobble. Supposed to be a stock Jeep.

#3 has the Dana 35, 3.73 gears and limited slip diff. Stock other than the wheels/tires and an aluminum radiator. Also missing the fan shroud. Owner says he went through the front steering, brakes not long ago. I can get #3 for $2.5k less than #2.

Sounds like 2 is your better candidate. The DW problem is likely something simple and best to start with tire balance. Anytime the steering damper is replaced, that's generally a bandaid that doesn't address the root problem.

it seems like the majority opinion is number two. The Dana 44 solidifies that choice for me. Number one is an absolute no with any rust. I do like the paint color better on number three but the Dana 35, X model, and and ugly aftermarket wheels kill it.

There is some logic there that escapes me somehow. Other than a few very minor differences that affect nothing, 97-02 are practically interchangeable.

That price won't even buy the parts to get a $7K rig over any of the normal trails in JV.

I agree with macleanflood.

2001 was when the simple push/pull headlight knob was replaced with that aggravating multi-function light "stalk" that I DESPISE. I personally wouldn't own a 2001+ model because of that alone.

2000 was when the TJ started having FOUR O2 sensors and gained a second catalytic converter. And they had issues with the head cracking.

1999 was when the old-school, mechanical HVAC slider controls was replaced with the flimsy rotary dials with the electric motor. And it is NOT easy to swap them out, either.

So that leaves 1997 and 1998 as the absolute best years of the Jeep TJ. ;)

Oh well, in that case, when are you installing one of these?

I prefer less hypocrisy. Much less. It is hypocritical at a very high level to snivel over a mechanical switch in a vehicle that has a PCM.

Of course that makes sense , I'm glad the high/low beam selection wasn't canbus ed as an " enable " for the PCM to switch , but I'm not German .

Hi Gents, I just got back from looking at and driving #2. It's exceptionally nice, rust free and drives great. Only 103K miles. The color is Deep Beryl Green Pearl Coat. I don't think I'm going to bother looking at #3. Think I found my Jeep. A friend will take me in tomorrow to pick it up.

Maybe. It looks cool, but I don't have a CLUE as to WTF it is...

Old cars came standard with these. You press it with your foot and it turns on the high beams. I remember when I first bought my 69 Camaro I was perplexed as to what this switch did until someone told me.

Congrats and good choice. I couldn’t tell by the color from the pic, but you gotta love green👍

Maybe this will help a 61-63 GMC dimmer switch ! :p

Ok, and thanx. I've had several vehicles setup that way - but that picture had no scale (should have included a banana) - it looked kind of like a small oil pan with some kind of appendage!

you youngsters...It can be fun using that with a manual transmission and only 2 feet. Had it on my 83 F250 4 speed. And my 64 Cuda, my 69 rebel, my 65 Dodge PU and my 69 Rambler American to name a few.
