Where is my center console subwoofer?

Hey everyone, so I am doing some much needed detailing of a recently acquired '06 LJ. I've noticed the sound quality is pretty poor and I came to the conclusion that there was no subwoofer installed within the center console. My center console storage goes all the way down to the tub though? Idk if it was an option at the time when new in 2006 but it has the cut out for a subwoofer on the driver side so I know one way or another it is possible. Thoughts?

If your stock center console has the cutout for the subwoofer, then there should be a subwoofer in there. Is there not? You should be able to see it through the little vent holes.

If it's not in there, someone likely removed it. Those things go bad all the time, as the stock subwoofers are literally pieces of garbage, as are the factory amps. If you want a fantastic replacement, follow what I did in this thread: Upgrading the sound system on your Jeep Wrangler TJ

I have a 2006 X with no sub. It still has the grill in the side of the console as if there were a sub, but the plastic liner of the console does not have any cutouts for a sub. I don't think someone removed it, it was just never there.

Still a nooB here but i thought an Unlimited was a higher end jeep, and seems it would come with a sub as OE, no?
Apparently a subwoofer was an option or it would be in every 06 Unlimited.
Looks like you will have to be creative and mount your sub under the back seat or other place.

Sub was optional, as some people may have wanted the deeper storage unit instead of a garbage sub... and yeah center consoles without the sub still had the slats for them on the side but would be covered a deeper storage insert

I just found my sub the other night stitching the new steering wheel cover. I dropped the needle down by the seat & fishing around down there with a magnet...... whoa, whats this?

So it's a 6.25" speaker? I looked thru Chris's thread above & see the recommended Kicker replacement. I've had pretty good luck with Kicker's 8" powered subs in my Avalanche. Stereo is a little down the road for me, but I'm looking forward to doing it.
