Hi,
I'm Tony from France (but my family and I live in Chicago) and new to the TJ community. I just bought a beautiful 2000 TJ 4.0L a few weeks ago!
I've learned a lot in the past couple of weeks, mostly from this forum (thanks!!).
Today, I couldn’t find the body code plate under the driver’s seat. Does anyone know where it might be? I’ve heard that sometimes it’s placed elsewhere (this also happens on some European cars…).
My TJ is from California and looks original — it still has all the original stickers — so I believe the body code plate must be somewhere…
Thanks!

Tony

Are you looking for the paint codes or the VIN? On my 2000 the paint code plate is in front on the radiator support (held on with one screw) and the VIN plate is in the dash visible through the windshield on the driver's side, then there is a sticker in the driver's door jamb with the VIN and tire/loading info.

I'll check the radiator support. I have the vin plate in the dash, the vin on the frame, and the sticker in the driver's door jamb. I'm looking for the code plate that is generally under the driver's seat. It has a lot of info on it according to the maintenance manual...

It's here (under the black plastic "Jeep" cover) on a 2005. Maybe on your 2000 too.

Don't trust all of the codes in the FSM, some are right, and some are not.

I stumbled across mine in my ‘99 just yesterday. It is riveted to the floor between my driver’s seat and door sill.
