I needed some respite from rain & snow when entering and exiting the garage.
That is the most redneck thing I've seen.
A VW bug hood works better. Dont ask how I know![]()
When I was growing up, we used to have multiple vintage car and truck hoods in the yard that were used for dog shelters. We used hoods old enough that they had "sides" to them, and the front dipped downward toward the grill. The front of the hood would be the back of the shelter, resting on the ground. The rear corners of the hoods (the front opening to the shelters) were nailed to some sizable posts (logs cut from small trees or large tree branches). We also dug out a "pit" in the center, which the dogs would later dig out even more, to their liking. This was the norm for years in the area where I lived in upstate New York. However, I've been unable to find a single pic online representing this kind of redneck ingenuity. This was also the era where spraying used motor oil on the driveway to keep the dust down was a normal thing, as was pouring it on blackberry bushes to kill them off.
Hey, don't judge me. I'm old!![]()
We kept 55 gallon drums of burnt motor oil and used it to dip the dogs in, for fleas, ticks and mange.
We also used it on the dirt road in front of our house and my great grandparents house probably 1/4 mile total to keep the dust down.
When I had Chicken houses I sprayed burnt oil and diesel fuel around the houses for weed control.
Judge me all you want, we did what worked.
