What should I do about these worn out parts?

@WestKyJeeper When I got my first TJ I had pretty much zero experience working on vehicles. This group and a lot of YouTube have walked me through most projects. Now I know slightly more than nothing but have done several projects I never would have thought possible a few years ago. Get past the fear of doing it yourself and there's a satisfaction knowing how stuff works. Write a list and start with the small stuff, sway bar links are only 8 bolts total. Then U-joints, couple more bolts. This group is really good about answering questions with knowledgeable answers

Awesome! Sounds like you have come a long way and this form helps out a ton I'm sure. I've always gotten valuable info from here and i appreciate it all especially starting out wrenchin lol

The ball joints are probably the most "difficult" thing on the list.

I am beginning to tackle the Ball joints and axle U-joints, I've found the recommended part numbers from the forum and ordered them today.

Do I really need the Ball joint press and adapter? I want this job to go as smoothly as possible. My dad said '' Oh we don't need that stuff i got some C-clamps" I told him that sounds kind of rigged up lol I just want something that works well but the kit and adapters are kinda $$$.

Borrow them from the parts store. Autozone, oreillys have free loaner tools.

Yeah I thought the labor sounded pricey.
On the other hand they are professionals and I would just be winging it lol. I think I can easily do the ball joints and maybe the axle unjoints. Same with the front and rear sway bar and links, I might just upgrade to rockjock on those.
Control arms sound easy but I’m not sure how to adjust them. And the driveshaft Ujoints I have no idea on.
I installed the currectlync steering kit and it was definitely a good feeling once I got it right. Thanks man.

0.I'm struggling with why the swaybars need replaced. That alone makes me think you are being taken for a ride.

I kind of thought that too. The sway bars do slide back and forth inside the bushings. Front and rear. Also the sway bar link bushings are probably deteriorated. I thought about just replacing the bushings myself and getting detachable links. Or might just upgrade to anti rock sway bar from rock jock 🤩

If you’re going to do anti rock look at swayloc best of both worlds

I agree with your thoughts. Take a look at the Swayloc. I have one and love it.

Not here to hijack but was wondering what you settled on. I am also looking at touching all the suspension components on my LJ and was wondering if you settled on a whole kit or pieced things together.

I think you got this man get some decently quality factory parts and do the job could be a fun learning experience plus most of that stuff is possible with basic hand tools with maybe a trip or two to harbor freight lol

This is a good post. I think it’s really typical.

I can’t say that I have any mechanical talent as much as I just like to tinker with stuff and for some reason, got really attached to my Jeep and didn’t want it to be sitting at a shop all the time

you get one of these things and you can have…I don’t know …six months or a year of
little projects

And you get on here people are figuring out everything on earth to do to them and are so helpful

I was looking at another thread earlier, where somebody didn’t really want to hear somebody had to say about their kind of lift and set up

This is a great place to learn if you want to be hands on, but it might not be where you want to be if you don’t like to hear the truth

My experience in here, if you're willing to listen someone will help. I tell a story all the time about this crazy stranger from Alabama that face timed me to walk me through a project! That's not a common thing . I'm in a few forums for other toys. The boat forum, even other Jeep forums, almost every answer is "Take it to the dealer". This group I've literally posted "whats this sound" and been walked through it

The key to solving any problem is to gather as much information as you can. Then you process the information to see what will work for you. There’s lots of bad advice out there especially on YouTube. As AndyG states we are here to help. Learn for their mistakes. Fortunately most of the Trolls and negative people have been removed from this forum. You can do this just take the time to do it right the first time.

Working on your Jeep is not very difficult. As long as you have the ambition.
Watch as many videos as you can find, take your time, you have everyone here that is willling to help and guide you, if you get stuck on something:-)

If you can rent the ball joint press from local auto parts store, do it. If not, buy the otc press. I used the knockoff 7894 cup kit and it was super easy. Need a 36mm and 28mm socket. Nobody local had a 28mm so i had to order one. I would just order it all knowing now. Easy job

I've had really good luck with DPG, Dirk is great and will walk you through everything.

I can also praise the SwayLoc, truly the best of both.

I got my springs and a couple other parts from there.

I did all the suspension and lift uprades myself. I took longer than needed, but was by myself and going slow.

Buy a long reach jack and some tall 6 ton jackstands to make your life easier. This is likely the best product to cime out of Harbor Freight.

You'll need them for a lifted vehicle in the future anyway. I bought a taller bottle jack and tossed some 2x6 pieces under the seat so I could change my tire on the road too.

I paid a 4x4 shop in town to regear and add lockers. That's much more technical work, they warrantied the work and parts, and I needed it done before a trip to Moab. The checked the axle parts out and replaced whatever was needed at that time.

I did a SSSYE install and replaced drive shafts myself.
