What could be causing this knocking noise?

I'm hearing a knocking sound I've not heard before. It sounds like its up front, undernieth the engine. I hear it more at slower speeds. It knocks the same RPM as the rotation of the engine/driveshaft.. Its kind of a hollow knock . Ill see if the front drive shaft is hitting anything but I'm sure its not. Is there something in the bell housing/clutch assembly that could cause that? Thanks , about to hit some trails and Ill pay coloser attention while on the way .

A lot of people identify the factory transfer case linkage as a problem maker. It is a ridiculous array of rods and levers, held together by bushings that inevitably disappear over the 14-23 year life of these vehicles. You may be able to test whether this linkage is the issue by holding the transfer case handle down during slower speeds. You may even feel the knock at your feet. If you do find this as the (or one of many) culprit, the most common fix is to replace the whole linkage assembly with a shifter cable.

Definitely put eyes on. One time after off-roading I just knew that I had done something serious because there was this horrible knocking the faster that I went. Stopped at a McDonalds for lunch and crawled underneath, it was a branch that was wedged through the gap in the ujoint on the driveshaft. Easiest fix I ever had.

I did hold the transfer case shifter when it was knocking and really couldn’t feel anything. But I’ll retry tomorrow.

Bummer on the knock. How are the tires working for you?
Tires are GREAT ! Not loud at all. We can carry on a normal conversation. The new design sx2 is easy on the road and Bad ass on the trails. Just haven’t been to rocks yet. Wet roads haven’t been an issue so far as far as hydroplaning.
don’t think I have the balance thing down all the way yet. But getting there. From 40 to 60 there’s a bit of vibration off and on.
Don’t even have 100 miles on them yet so still learning.
