Long time forum reader, first time poster! I’m finally fixing up my bone-stock 6-speed ‘05 LJ Rubicon. My goal overall is to use the best components I can, with my plans on keeping this Jeep in the family forever. Im in the process of installing a Clayton suspension kit, steering upgrade, drive-shaft, gears, axle shaft upgrade, and some engine modifications. I’m also replacing the radiator with an aluminum Griffin unit, matched up with a new Mopar water pump. My question to the forum is, after flushing the system, what is the best or recommended coolant type / brand to use for a ‘05 4.0 TJ with an aftermarket aluminum radiator? My goals are cool temps and long lasting performance. Thanks very much, greatly appreciate the knowledge on this forum!

Standard green universal is what I have in mine with aluminum radiator. I fully flushed out the entire engine before filling.

Zerex G-05 is the best. It is Hybrid Organic Acid Technology, or HOAT and is what is specificied by Chrysler. If you don't know what's currently in the engine do a very thorough flush with distilled water. Different coolants aren't always compatible with each other.

Sounds good thanks, that’s my plan to thoroughly flush so start over properly from scratch

I didn't see his was an '05. You are correct.

Universal green. Works fine, and you can find it pretty much anywhere. If a place has antifreeze, they always at least have universal IME. Great for when a hose takes a shit 2 hours from home and you need a compatible coolant to get home.

Ask me how I know...

If I was two hours from home when a hose took a shit I'd be happy running tap water.
I actually had a hose blow last year but was about an hour from home. I bought what was the most expensive bottles of mineral water I've ever purchased to fill the system and get home. It got a full flush and fresh coolant the next day.

I always kept a few green jugs in mine. If I needed more, I didn't have to question where to get more coolant. Anywhere would likely have it. That way I don't have to run tap water or wait for a tow

I had a Ford escort blow a hose clamp. Got it fastend back on and the only fluid I could find was the Coke in my back seat. Two hours later I made it to my parents house and flushed it the next day. When I did I was greeted with a big surprise...the aluminum in the radiator was shinier than new. No trouble for the next few years until I had the POS towed to the dump.
