Here is what I'm reading now...

There's an awesome museum, where the Hunley is on display in Charleston.

The last time I was down there was within a few weeks of the Hunley being put in the tank. At that point, not much was visible, but I did get to see it while the tank was drained. How do they have things displayed now? US Civil War stuff has always had my interest for some reason.

I just got Confronting The Presidents by Bill O'Reilly. I've always liked presidential history, so I'm looking forward to starting the book tonight.

I just finished Killing Reagan, I like the O'Reilly/Dugard books, though it wasn't nearly as good as the Lincoln & Kennedy versions.

Just started this, pretty interesting, focused mainly on the violence & torture inflicted by all involved, including Americans vs. British & their loyalist Americans, British & their mercenaries vs. Americans... horrendous conditions & supply chain issues endured by all, looting of the colonies by anyone & everyone, it was a total clusterfuck.

The Hunley is still in the tank. I understand it's to keep it feom deteriorating.
There's a good bit of civil war history and a lot of stuff about the construction and testing.
There's a mock up from the movie that is actually bigger than the actual sub.
It's very well organized and pretty comprehensive. As a sailor (not subs) it's fascinating and seriously a little daunting.
I'll definitely visit the museum again on my next trip.

Same here, but although I prefer reading on Kindle, I was able to buy a used paperback on eBay for less than half of what Amazon wanted for the Kindle version.

If you subscribe to Early Bird Books you'll get a list of books in your email every day for .99 to $2.99 and they all have an Amazon link. N-4 Down was $2.99. I've paid $1.99 to $2.99 for just about all my Kindle books. Once in awhile I'll want one that's too new for the bargain and I'll pay full price. They send you a list of about 40-50 books a day but about once a week you'll get a page with several hundred that takes a while to go over. None are over $2.99.

I don't know why but electronics don't last long for me. I've bought three Kindles, three tablets, and way to many firesticks, they all died.

I now buy books and I've found that the roku's have lasted longer so I'll stick with those.

I'm similar with Kindle unlimited - the ONLY subscription I have (or want). Once in a while, I'll pay full price, but I usually just go and see if its on eBay.

My wife has a Roku, and it is about 7 years old now and going strong. I'm on my third Kindle in 10 years. The first one died, I lost the second - Goddess alone knows where/how - and this third one I may replace soon as its buggy as Hell, has been buggy as Hell since day one. I also don't like what Amazon did with the Kindle UI - it used to be pretty good, now it sucks. But I like reading Kindle over "dead tree books" that I've been putting up with it.

At least they're cheap, and Amazon gives a decent trade in even if it isn't working.

Why the FUCK would I want to do that? The Kindle's e-ink is what makes for comfortable reading - staring at a light bulb doesn't cut it. Too small and too expensive too.

As is usual with those horrid things - they're a Jack of all trades, master of none. There are very few things that they can do that can't be done better - and cheaper - with a device designed for the task.

I guess you missed my point while you were laughing at your super funny joke 🙄.

I'll never understand why someone wants to read a book outside (pool, lake, or ocean) or read a book on a cellphone. I've seen it happen way to often but then again I also see people still wearing masks.

I read outside from time to time - either dead tree or Kindle.
