Ok so bought my Rubicon on the way home threw code P0305. Well swapped 4 & 5 fuel injectors, replaced coil pack and plugs, compression test was good, leak down test was perfect. So I am looking at a cam or lifters. Jeep has 115K miles so prolly had a lot of dry starts in its life. I am struggling to find information on a good upper end refresh. I see some old threads offering a 450/450 cam but can't find it anywhere in real life. Summit Racing has gone to hell in a hand bag and Jegs doesn't show a lot either. Going change oil to 5 qts 13-30 and 1 at Marvel in case I am lucky and it's a stuck lifter. What I need is advice on an upper end refresh. Don't wanna redo the head unless it makes sense but no machine work she is tight.

Before diving into the major job of swapping a cam, since you seem to be suggesting you have a flat cam and/or dead lifters, have you pulled the valve cover to see what is or is not actually happening?

Yes and everything is moving but I do not have a good dial indicator to measure the valve lift. I used a digital caliper and it appears number 5 is not getting the same lift as number 3. Everything is tight and looks in good condition.

Pretty easy job, yank the head, new cam, lifters, and would probably do rockers if they have wear.

I agree but I am looking for a slightly more aggressive cam that will work with a stock tune. If I need to build for a Dyno I'm doing and LS swap.

Need help again. Pulled the head today and number 5 exhaust lifter was deformed and looking thorough the hole so is the cam. I'm ordering a cam Monday and need advice. I want to do the 450/450 lift cam with stock valve train. Supposed to be ok without needing a flash. Have any of you done this and are you happy?

There is a very good chance your pan will have debris in it.
Open up the oil filter and look at it. See if there is metal on the filter paper.
If there is you should pull the pan and clean it out.

Yeah we will pull the pan when we do the cam. I'm not a fan of cutting gaskets and siliconing corners. I'm trying to figure out the whole cam situation lol.

I'd probably replace the timing chain and pump with Meling. Normal volume.

Since the pan is down consider a RMS and possibly rolling in crank bearings.
