That would be my recommendation, then you can more easily assess the cables etc. lots of YouTube videos on it!

Easiest way is to grab the round bar that runs across the underside and twist it forward. There is a tab you push and then twist, you may not have to push the tab, I can’t remember and my Jeep is 3k miles away!
For mine (2001) I have a kind of flat plate about 2” square which I push down.
i considered a small 2 piece shaft collar with a rod welded onto 1 of the 1/2's. just never got around to it.

It is behind and toward the transmission tunnel side of the seat adjustment (forward/rear) pull bar. It is what the cable running from the upper pull tab actuates to release the seat.
Still no fix yet. Keep looking and trying different things. The bike cable and cable at Lowe's don't last long and break.
