Hi all! Hopefully you guys can help me out. I have an automatic 2.4. Last time I changed my trans fluid I did so without dropping the skid plate, since the bolts are really really tough to remove, even with loads of PB blaster and a long cheater bar. I accidentally stripped one of the bolts on the back side of the pan, one that is behind the skid plate. The pan leaks fluid from around that bolt now since it can't keep the seal. I bought a tap kit, but I can't get it tapped without dropping the skid plate, and I can't get the skid plate to budge. I have the stock pan installed. Anyone have any advice? I'd love to fix this without dropping the skid.

Thanks!

Sounds like you overtightened the pan bolts. I always torque those to spec in a star pattern.

You're probably gonna have to drop the skid, sorry. You're gonna have to eventually, these things are 20+ years old now.

Cut the skid plate bolts off and install nutserts with new bolts. Black Magic Brakes sells a nice kit and a nutsert tool.
