I got a chance to work on the flat fender today, the 4 link is pretty well established, but I needed a solution for the rear coil overs.
First what I wanted...
I want at least 12+ of suspension travel in the rear
What I don't want...
The shock towers coming up through the body.
So there was only a few options... a short 8" travel coil over on a trailing arm, but the shock would mount pretty much to the back of the seat... This is plan B.
The other option has always fascinated me... a cantilever suspension.
So I've been working on this in my spare time, from cad (cardboard aided design) to CAD (computer aided design) to a physical model, then modifying the physical model to fit reality..
Here is the rough draft

The bell crank has been modified so many times now I'm thinking of just cutting a new one from send cut send, but the basic dimensions have been narrowed down. I have an 8" travel shock and the axle has an impressive 14" of travel. I'll likely limit it to 13" with bumps and straps to protect the driveshaft. You can see the driveshaft is at its max when drooped. Initial flex tests look good too.
I'll post more as it gets finalized.
