The truck flashes a wrench and puts you in limp mode. I had the twin turbo 3.5 ecoboost. It was the second one in that truck. Cooked the first one towing on flat ground and lost oil pressure at 90,000 miles. This is what I have been wondering when @Apparition talks of overheating. I believe his F150 had the turbo.
My GM 1500 towed my current LJ just fine on a Uhaul trailer for a long haul but no mountains were involved. I know towing a load like that routinely is better of with a 3/4 or larger truck but I am very happy with the performance of my 1500 for the infrequent trip.
Yeah, my coolant temp climbs to where it makes me a little nervous on this on particular ascent, gets to about 235 but once I get over the hump it drops right back to 210 in short order, right at the center of the gauge. No turbos for me, just a normal V8.This is what I have been wondering when @Apparition talks of overheating. I believe his F150 had the turbo.

That is definitely a problem for me.And my 1500 fits in my garage where a 3/4 ton would not.
Some day I’m gonna have an aircraft hangar for all my vehicles. And my 1500 fits in my garage where a 3/4 ton would not.
A good friend is building a 50 x 60 garage. Its taking a very long time with current supply shortages. Some day I’m gonna have an aircraft hangar for all my vehicles.
I can’t even get a Red Bull at the gas stations around here. Feels like I’m in Venezuela.A good friend is building a 50 x 60 garage. Its taking a very long time with current supply shortages.
I’m in Nashville so the farthest I would drive would probably be hot springs or windrock.Depends on where you are towing. If staying out of the rockies a good half ton with a max tow is probably fine.
If towing in the rockies, I'm a believer in more truck. I have way too much truck now and I smile every time I go over those mountains. I overheated with the half ton I used before and lost a transmission once too.
You should consider a brand new $90k 2500.I’m in Nashville so the farthest I would drive would probably be hot springs or windrock.
I’m not looking to buy a brand new truck either. Something probably around 2007-2010.
Considered and rejected. The more I spend on the towing vehicle the less I have for the JeepYou should consider a brand new $90k 2500.
