TJ Rubicon Front End Noise

I am getting a medium frequency noise in 2wheel high. . It seems to come from the driver side above about 30 mph. It increases in volume but not pitch. Remains constant accelerating or decelerating and floating(coasting). Only time it quiets down is selecting 4 wheel high. Any ideas?

Noises are extremely hard to locate..I’m chasing one myself…so, I’m gonna have a local shop put the TJ up on the lift so, it can be ran elevated and hopefully my noise/noises can be pinpointed..

Maybe you should do the same..to keep your sanity…because unusual noises in a vehicle drive me nuts ..until I find the cause and fix the problem..

Pull the front driveshaft.if it goes away it probably needs rebuilt or replaced

Pull that shaft.

In 4 hi it is “loaded” (under drive force) and may be quieter- for now.

The idea is to determine if the shaft is failing at the cardan or any u joint- it is usually catastrophic when they fail- takes out the transfer case with it.
