TJ outer knuckle upgrade

Most want upgraded brakes for off-road. Deep gears and 4low you can drive thru your brakes. Automatic even more so.

Agree, that is why I have the 11" Explorer's on the Currie 60 in the rear and PS Z36 kit on the Currie 44 in the front. This is my first TJ build, not my first wheeler build. All I am asking about is if anyone has any luck on upgrading the knuckles, if i needed advice on brakes I would have asked.

I've been running the blackmagicbrakes knuckles on my Currie HP44 for about 6 years and have not had any problems with them.

What size tires are you running?

For the record, rear Explorer disc brakes are identical to TJ rear disc brakes and there is no increased stopping ability over the drum brakes, by design.

So run 42" IROK Bias ply. and now all the keyboard warriors should be jumping on to tell me how dumb that is. Here is the deal, I have been running 42's for a long time and as long as you no the limits the 44 is just fine, just don't pin it to win it. The 44 front replacement parts are a whole lot cheaper than the front 60's. and the motor is not anemic, it is a 4.7 S&J Stroker backed up with a built 32RH, and an ATLAS. like I said this is not my first build and it only is on the trails, I know my rig, I built it and I will put my money where my mouth is anytime. In fact KOE is on the 16th of November, I will be up there and gladly compete with anyone. Hope to see any haters up there on the mountain.

They sure do. This is my first TJ build as I use to be a Toyota guy

So which is it? You tell us you don't have any experience with tj's but you are an expert on the uses of 42's.

It doesn't matter to us. you'll find out pretty fast how those 42's work out on jeep axles. The failure points are well documented. The posturing and name calling isn't helping you learn anything.

Did you get a custom width 44? Or is it the standard TJ width?

42's are 42's no matter the rig you are running unless you are sitting on front and rear one tons or maybe a Busted Knuckle rig sitting in your garage. chromoly axles do just fine with 42's and its even better when you throw a pair of RCV's with them. I have ran this rig multiple times on different terrain including rock gardens and climbs with no issues. It is all about the way you drive the rig. All I was asking was about was if anyone had found upgraded knuckles, if I wanted opinions about my rig I would have asked. Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one!

You indicated that this is your first TJ build, and you have previously built Toyota stuff - which we have said is very different. You are getting good advice here, but choosing to blow it off.

Yes, you only asked about knuckles. Asked and answered. If you run 42’s on 44’s behind a 4.7, the knuckle is the least of the problems.

There are no haters here, just a bunch of guys with a lot of experience on this platform. Take our advice in the spirit in which it is given, or not.

As someone with just a super cool grocery getter, when are we entering the territory of needing stronger knuckles? What starts breaking?

After seeing pics of your hairy paws I think you're good. Now if you had hands like this maybe?
