So here's the deal:

04 TJ, new battery, new belt, new alternator.

Battery draining at an alarming rate. 24 hours from strong to dead as a doornail.

Theres a noticeable hum from the middle.of.the cowl area, seems to be coming from the middle of the dash but thats just an impression. Its very soft.

Whenever you open the door the dials on the dash go crazy; hopping and bopping and jiggling around. Close the door and it stops. And of.course the battery is dead although is you leave a battery charger on it overnight you can get some solenoid clicking for a few secondly.

The problem is compounded by the fact that I have very little idea what Im doing. Took 10 days to change out.the tensioner.

The humming noise could indicate a short or maybe a ground connection issue. Since the gauges are acting up when the door is opened, that could hint at a wiring problem, possibly in the door switch circuit.

It also sounds like you might have a parasitic battery drain. You can test this by disconnecting the negative battery terminal and placing a multimeter in series to measure the current. You’ll want to see if there's a significant draw when everything is powered off.

Next, since you've recently replaced the battery, alternator, and belt, double-check all your connections. Make sure there isn't anything loose that could be causing intermittent power issues. Also, check the fuses for any that might be blown.

Lastly, look for things like a stuck interior light or a malfunctioning switch as these can sometimes drain the battery more than you expect.

Good luck, and keep us updated on what you find!

Here's the factory service manuals...section 8w is wiring.
