Tire carrier replacement options (Rusty's?)

My Exogate isn't holding up to a 37", so need to replace it with something else. Not a fan of the Genright and prefer something that isn't a tire swing mounted to a bumper.

Rusty's carrier says it can handle a 40". Any one have one? Other ideas?

I don't have any personal experience with these folks, but they are local to me. Their's claims up to 42"

I don't have any experience with either carrier so can't offer 1st hand input. I'd looked at the Rusty's carrier before since other than the GR carrier there wasn't other options until the CavFab carrier was offered.

@mudmaster just installed one onto his LJ and is running 40's.

And I'm watching yours. I'll wait a year and see how it's doing then decide if I want to get one. My one issue that isn't a huge deal is they don't offer the 5x5.5" wheel pattern as an option. So if I ordered one I'd call and ask them to leave the plate blank and I'd just drill it or get the 5x4.5" BP and then redrill it myself if they won't give me a blank.

They may drill it to 5X5.5 if asked??

Yep I figured when the time came I'd call and see what my options are. I want to see how yours holds up first and then decide if I want to get a spare or not.
I've got a 5th Spyderlock but don't have a 5th Stazworks rim. Not that this really matters.

Had one of these on my last TJ and it did what it was supposed to. About 1/2 the price of what you're looking at. I was only running 31s at the time though not sure how big or a wheel this accomodates. Worked really well for what it was

There is an interesting contradiction on their website pertaining to this tire carrier.
One spot it says up to a 37" tire is allowed & then in another it says a 35" tire...
I'd be worried it wouldn't be up to the task of anything larger than a 35" tire. What I do wish was that instead of stating a tire size these manufacturers would instead offer a LBS load rating since different wheel/tire combos can have a pretty large spread in what they weigh.

Description

The Spartacus HD Tire Carrier System provides the ultimate in strength and stability for mounting your oversized wheel and tire. Functionally designed to manage the amplified force and vibrations produced during extreme off-road conditions.

The precision die-cast aluminum Hinge Casting provides maximum strength without the excess weight of steel. The one-piece design maintains one-handed access to cargo area and rigidly links the Wheel Mount to the reinforced section of the rear quarter panel. This, in combination with forged steel hinge brackets and hardened steel pins, results in far superior load capacity than the factory tailgate hinges, thereby effectively reducing wear and increasing longevity.

The Wheel Mount lifts the mounting position and incorporates depth and tilt adjustability for large diameter and wide tire options. Tested to MIL-STD-810 to simulate extended duration of vigorous off-road driving conditions. Rated for up to and including 37" wheel tire combinations. Includes adjustable third brake light bracket. Compatible with OE and most aftermarket rear bumpers. No drilling required.

The problem is now your factory latch is all that holds it in place. It will likely start to torque and tweak the tailgate. Thats what exo did with a 37 in my LJ

Good morning, any update on this path for you guys? I had been considering an exogate to replace our garvin bumper mount swing away to hold our 35”. Want to simplify and just have a tailgate to open eventually.

Going on 6-7 years and tens of thousands of miles with a 35" tire.

Support the bottom of the tire somehow and it will last as long as the Jeep will.

No complaints about the Exogate. It was fine when I had a 35" tire.

I ended up replacing it with the Rusty's carrier. Seems to work well with a 37". @mrblaine installed it and didn't like it though. I don't recall what specifically he didn't like.

I had looked at the Cavfab carrier as well. It looks like it is well built. The reasons I didn't get it:
1. It's unfinished. So I'd have to pay to get it powder coated.
2. They mention an attachment point is the OEM roll bar and I have an aftermarket custom cage. So wasn't sure if it would fit.

It took far longer than prudent to install and get to be correct. The hinges are offset from the swing so if you don't space the tail gate back in, it will stick out on at least the hinge side by over 1/4". That is a feature I thought should be obvious. Put them both in the same plane. If they install with no armor, no harm, no foul. If they have corner armor and no tail gate skin, space under the hinges on the gate to put it back where it belongs. Corner armor and tail gate skin? Again, no harm, no foul.

Roll cage attachment would almost always pertain to the pads that mount the cage foot to the tub so I suspect that is how they are doing it.
