I was wondering if anyone could decipher this ticking noise I hear while I’m accelerating and help me upload a video to hear it lol. Tried twice now and it gets to 100% and says something went wrong

Little bit of lifter/ rocker noise? Hard to say for certain. Try adding some ZDDP to your oil, these bad boys were designed in the era of zinc heavy oil

Yeah I was looking into that last night, should I add it now or when I do my next oil change? And what’s the best oil to run for these? Obviously I know that’s pretty much opinion based but nice to hear the opinions

Check your u-joints and drive line angles . It's hard to hear exactly but since the Jeep is lifted it could be an slight out of phase issue.

its a pretty mild lift on it but that could be causing the noise?

Oh no. He asked… the question.

There are multiple threads on what oil to run, I can’t remember the weight off the top of my head. A conventional with some zddp is the hot set up.

Depends on how close to the next change you are. It’s not the cheapest additive, but it actually does quiet down the valve train. If you’re due in like 1,000 or less, that seems a little wasteful as you’ll need to add another bottle after that, but if you are a short tripper and do the once a year LOF, dump ‘er in and let it ride.

If it makes it stationary, no. If you’re parked and the tick follows the revs, it’s valve train, if it’s only in motion, probably driveline related. That said, some engine noises only occur with load, so that’s fun. If auto, just power brake it, if manual, you can mimic this but I’m not even gonna explain it because I can smell the clutch smoke from here.

Take a look at the rear drive shaft length then ask the question again. Check the u-joints , slip joint and angles .
