The best mods

the rear 44 arb diff has a low drain plug and a high fill plug, so you do not have to remove the cover as often...if that helps you think of it as functional.
no help necessary, I put them on specifically because I thought they were highly functional. When I actually did spend a lot of time with my diffs submerged in filthy black Appalachian coal laden water I drained those things regularly, the low magnetized drain plugs (on the front 30 too) made life very simple, not to mention that they're indestructible.

I have a front locker that I'm going to install "real soon now" when the weather cools off - looking forward to it - but I agree about the hand throttle. Best thing EVER!

Im saving toward a full regear to get out of the 3.slow gearing and actually utilize the power band...... Thinking of a locking front and LSD rear, but might as well go all out and build a super30/35 setup while its all taken apart. No real need for a hand throttle since ill be doing trails mostly, and its an automatic so I dont have a clutch to fart with.

Mine's a trail Jeep as well - install a hand throttle, you'll thank me later.

Front locker and hand throttle.

If I started over with a stock TJ I would install a front locker and a hand throttle on day 1 and go wheeling on day 2.

I’ve seen people talk about hand throttles, what’s all the talk about? From what I understand it just allows you to focus on the clutch but do you really get a whole lot more control with it or is it more of a creature comfort idea?
I’m intrigued at just the fact of not stalling off-roading on steep hills anymore ha.

The main reason for a hand throttle is to eliminate your foot bouncing on the accelerator when jolting as you go over rough terrain, especially rocks.

I use it plenty for that (and I think that's about all it would be good for with an auto) but I also use it to free up my brake foot. For example, stopped halfway up an obstacle to adjust line, I can throttle up, then perfectly synchronize the clutch and brake so I don't roll back and lose my position or destabilize the rig lurching forward.

I also use it a lot just like cruise control...even on long descents...sometimes just idling down on engine braking is too slow; the hand throttle helps get the perfect speed where the next gear up would have been too fast.
