Tennessee Red

I love the TJ6, but it is not for me. I am just going to stretch the frame and wheel base, not the body. For the type of wheeling I do, having the wheels stick out a little past the body is what I need. Ultimately, in the way off future I will most likely cut off the back of the tub and tube out the rear end. My plan is to try to keep it small (TJ width and about 105" wb) with the least amount of body to rub on the rocks when I am in tight spots.

That makes total sense to me given what I know about your wheeling. I guess I missed your front stretch. Recent?

Yeah, I stretched the front in Dec. I have two wheeling trips on it so far and still need to work out some items before I dig into the rear. I will most likely redo my steering in the front since the only real issue that I have is that the currectlync steering is right on the edge of being too close on the passenger side, so if I even bump a rock in the slightest with the TR or Drag link I get contact. Not sure when I will be able to get to the steering changes, but that is my next project.

Did you write it up in this thread? I’d like to check it out.

Thx! Couple of things:
1) Did you need to rotate the steering box flat and use a straight pitman arm to keep the steering clear of the track bar? I’m wanting to stretch my front when I do the midarm and I’m trying to get an idea of what it will involve.
2) I was wondering if the ball joint deletes caused any bind in the steering and hence the wandering but then I saw your post able the hydraulic ram bend. All good now still with steering? I had a similar sounding problem with Carli heavy duty ball joints in my tow rig years ago. Drove me nuts and took me forever to figure out.

1) Yes, I rotated the box flat using the TNT kit. You could do it without the kit and save a little money especially if your good with a plasma cutter, but I got a good deal on the kit and it worked perfect. I used a flat pitman arm from partsmike.com. I currently have the RockJock track bar and the currectlync steering but I am going to change that in the near future.

2) Steering is all good after I replaced the ram. I am pleased with the BJE right now, I will see how they last in the long run.

There's now 3 of us running the TNT steering rotation kit. Like Victor said it isn't cheap & I'm sure that there are people out there who could make the plates and stuff on their own and save some coin but it was nice just to have all the pieces needed. I used the same flat pitman arm from PartsMike. It come 7" long and you cut & drill it for the length you want. I tired to use a GenRight twisted pitman arm first but it wouldn't work.

I've got some older ball joint eliminators on my HP44 right now but will be swapping them out for the American Iron BJE's when I pull the axle apart to fix the ARB.

One thing about the American Iron is that on the latest version the steering back to center feel is adjustable. I think the original versions were a little tight and there was some complaints about the return to center, but the version I got you set the return to center by adjusting the torque of the upper pin during install.

That's good to know. Both that issue exists as I suspected it might and that it has been addressed.

The stretch look with wheels right at both ends is my favorite jeep look. Add in a TJ-6 to that and it is 👌

Yeah, TJ-6 has always kinda been a dream of mine. Trouble is, I'm WAY too cheap to really go down that path, since that much wheelbase really needs 40's...and that is a 50,000 dollar hole to fall in!

How is your lunchbox burrito oven been working out btw?

The only opportunity I had to try it out it was extremely cold outside and it only got the burritos warm, not really hot. So I need to move it closer to the manifold. During the summer my hood gets so hot I can't even touch the hold open rod without gloves, but it was so cold outside on that trip that I was able to open the hood and touch the box with my bare hands. So probably good for summer but need to be closer to hear source when it is cold.

Good to know, thanks. Hoping to make one myself before the Moab trip

When you are the Northerner working at a Southern company you come to work to find stuff like this waiting for you on your desk.
