Haven’t tried it but my phone is supposed to be capable of that now. In fact when I lose signal it prompts me to send a text via satellite.

I'm a 'droid guy. I hate iphones. I had one once and refuse to get another.

Just tried to send a text via satellite. It’s still just a demo. Could have sworn it was going to send it awhile back when I was out of cell coverage.

Looks like Pixel 9 and up will have ability to do it. Seems some of the lower Pixels might be able to do it also.

Hoping this shows up on Google FI since it runs on T-Mobile mostly.

if you have a modern phone ,it can already talk to the low orbit sattelites. id assume they are using this feature.

Makes sense since I finally upgraded from my pixel 3 to a pixel 8.

Hopefully you're right and the 8 ends up getting it, too.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S10 and it does not have that feature. That is just coming out in 'droids now.

I'm sure Sonim and similar rugged phone vendors will eventually have this. I'd like to have that capability, but don't want to have to resort to a PHOOOOOONNE to use it. I'll rent an inreach if/when I do need it for the time being.

my buddy said it is not provided. you have to have your own starlink.

Your buddy is misinformed. There is no dish or antenna required. It is built into your phone. My Pixel 9, for example, has it directly. Nothing other than the phone in my hand...
