Purchased new sway bar bushings but when I tried to remove the bolt from the old ones the nut broke off. Any ideas or advice on getting that bolt out and how to put new on?
Were you able to remove the sway bar bushing retaining clamp ?
Is there a stub remaining for the broken bolt ?
Try using a vise grip to twist the stub free; IF not move to my next suggestion.
IF there is a stub remaining; you can have a nut welded onto the stub, twist the nut slightly CW and then CCW (removes the rust from the threads); continue the cycling CW and CCW until the remainder of the bolt has twisted free.
Will try using vise grips to get bolt out and let you know if successful. Thanks![]()
I have not been able to remove the retaining clamp. The bolt just spins and will not back out. Will try using vise grips to get bolt out and let you know if successful. Thanks![]()
IF the bolt continues spinning without moving outward from the hole; use a flat bladed screw drive and leverage it between the clamp and the head of the bolt, apply pressure between them while turning to bolt. This should allow the bolt to unthread from the hole.
Can you cut the bolt head off? Then use a nursert for the new bolt??
Sorry Nutsert.

@mrblaine might chime in on the best ones I know he sells some on his website also.
We need to know if the weld nut is still in place and the nut is spinning or if the bolt stripped inside the nut and is just turning. If the nut broke loose, it can be fixed with a nutsert. The bolt is 10mm coarse. If the nut is still in place and just stripped at either the bolt or nut threads, that's a different repair.
