Father is an experienced mechanic and is having an issue diagnosing my issue with my Jeep starting. After I smogged my 04 today and they shut it off it wouldn’t start back up. All it would do is you would hear the click of it trying to start. Replaced starter as the one on it was original and it’s doing the same thing. Battery is less than 6 months old and power is testing good at the starter, and engine is not seized up.

Check all your battery connections and grounds. Look for any signs of corrosion or not good ground connections.

This has happened on my pickup more than once. Seems like about twice a year it won't crank, it just makes that clicking sound you mention. I have to remove the and clean the terminal connections. I carry a brush and will sometimes pour club soda or diet coke over it to clean away the build-up.

A terminal brush is best, but even an old toothbrush can help.
