I’ve noticed some TJ’s have a lad attached to the underside of the hood. The one I saw in person looked OEM.

It was an LJR just like mike but an 05.

I’m curious if it is effective and how it effects heat dissipation in our already too hot engine bays.

Most all of these heat shields have aluminum as the means for reflecting heat.
If an under hood pad is used, the aluminum side of the product will be facing down, which will reflect the heat back toward the engine.

I.can see a pad working somewhat as an under hood sound deadener but not as something to reduce engine heat.

There are 2 ways to reduce heat..
1 is by using vents or louvres which allow the heat to escape on its own which it does very well if given the chance, and
2, by removing it physically by using a fan or some.such.thing to blow the heat away, my .02.
