Is anyone running the 9500# Smittybuilt Gen3? I am looking at it and cant find it the remote is wireless and wired like the 12K# model. Cant even find it on SB website for sure.

Do you have a serial # or anything to give you a possible year it was manufactured? That would help to tell what features it might of had.

Thats the one. The 12K shows as being wireless, so I cant imagine that the 9,5 wouldnt be wireless also
The 12k one looks like it's wired to me also but maybe I'm looking at something different. I think I had the gen 2 version and I could use a harbor freight badland wireless remote on it. It did have a slight lag but I'm not sure if that's typically of all wireless remotes.
I don't see the 12K as having a wireless remote. The manual for the Gen 3 winches is the same for both the 9.5 and the 12, and there are indications throughout the manual that it's a wired remote. Oddly, SmittyBilt doesn't make the manual available on their web site, but I found it here:

You will find it hard to beat a good used Warn. I would not buy a SB.

I have a wireless on the Warn on my pickup. The Jeep had a virtually new Warn M8000 on it when I bought it. Although the M8000 has proven itself very capable for the Jeep, I am spoiled by the wireless. I hate to change out a new winch just because I want wireless, but if I were in the market for another winch, I wouldn’t settle for one without wireless.

Put winch control in the cab, real handy.
Wireless: more batteries to fool with, something else to go wrong, lose, blah, blah.
I would not buy a SB or wireless.
My opinion, could be wrong.

I guess we’re all different. I’ve used the wireless several times and keep batteries in the glove box with the control. If the batteries die, it doesn’t strand me. There is also a cable in the glove box to use if the batteries die. If I get tired of the wireless for some reason, I can just use the cable the same as a cable only control. It’s kind of the best of both worlds. I can understand how the worry about dead batteries could be a turn off for some folks, but there again with mine you can ignore the wireless feature and just use the cable if you choose.
Someone was saying that there was a delay with their wireless. I haven’t noticed a delay, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t one.

I’ll try to remember to listen for the lag next time. The Wireless is on my pickup, not my Jeep. I use it for disaster relief and hurricane season is almost upon us, so I will probably be using it before long.
As far as consistent and predictable goes, since I haven’t noticed it before, I expect it to be both of those things.

A warn rep has said he likes the phone app remote better than the wireless controller. I would assume due to lag.
I haven’t tried the phone app. It has been so convenient to just grab the remote and you’re in business without plugging it in or anything. You just grab it before or after pulling and rigging rope, then punch the on button and winch, and do it out of the line of fire. I keep my iPhone mounted on the dash above the radio taking dashcam video. It’s easier to get the remote out of the glovebox than to futz around getting the iPhone out of the mount and it lets me have video of the pull.
