Has anyone come across a scan tool other than the DRB3 that will allow you to resync cam/crank sensors? My Modis doesn't have the features.
I was wondering if any of the knock off brands on Amazon have this feature.

I did the Cam Crank relearn on my 2006 TJ 4.0L with a Foxwell 510 Elite,
but it took several goes and it is a very slow scan tool compared to others that I have used.
I dialed the OPDA in to the lowest value difference that I could get before doing the relearn.
It's probably easier to dial in the OPDA to the existing learned Cam Crank Learned value by using the live data stream feature of the Foxwell 510Elite.
The image below is with the engine running, the learned value is constant and the Cam Crank Difference varies by about 0.1

I have an Innova 5610 which has bi-directional support. I used it to do a cam/crank relearn when i first got my LJ. Took all of 30 seconds. No issues.

I will have to check mine. I picked up something that will put the transmission into quicklearn and it has quite a few other functions. I haven't explored them all, but it does bi-directional communication with the PCM.

Dang, forgot to update this thread. The ThinkDiag dongle DOES in fact allow you to view the cam sync and rotate the sensor to get it in position. You can also force the PCM to "relearn" sensor positions.

Does it allow you to view the learned value?
My foxwell 510Elite will often complete a relearn but not actualy change the learned value, so being able to verify that the relearn took effect is important.

Dialing in the opda requires a verified relearn or knowing that it is dialed in to the current learnt value.

FYI for anyone who wants this it's currently priced at 30% off. I don't know if that's typical or not but figured I'd point it out, it was $345 last week when I looked ant $241 today.

I think I have to retract any past endorsement I gave for the thinkdiag2. I just tried to use it (nothing major wrong, just messing around) and learned that my "free" year of the manufacturer specific functions has run out and to renew it costs almost as much as the device itself, which I find absurd and ridiculous for generic Chinese product.

Now it's glorified and overpriced generic OBD2 scanner. If I need it's functions again in the future I'll be looking for something with a perpetual license. I don't remember dealing with this nonsense from the Foxwell I had for my MINI, in fact I'm almost certain I didn't because it had an integrated display and didn't require a phone to use.

Oh no that’s the one I bought also to sync my sensors. I may have a surprise. I guess it will be $29 to sync a sensor next time. I guess it beats the $3000 Ford scan tool in the bottom drawer I never use and isn’t for newer vehicles.

There's also a free 3 day trial, but I don't know how often or how many times you can do that. I didn't want to use mine up since I was just messing around and trying to refresh my memory on how to use it.

@mjbcomp I am trying to use the 5610 scanner on my 2000 Wrangler to perform the cam crank relearn. When I go to the procedure it starts with asking if the engine is off and ignition is on. Once I select yes to these conditions then it just says process complete. Is that what yours does also? Thank you.

Obviously I'm not mjbcomp, and I don't have a 5610 scanner, but I can tell you that even on Chrysler's DRBIII scanner that I have, performing a relearn is very uneventful. Nothing happens after doing it.

Thank you. I was expecting some values or a process to go through. It just said it was finished without any of that. Hopefully it did the job and has them synced up now.

To verify that it "did the job", compare the "Cam Crank Learned" value in the data stream to the "Cam Crank Difference" value in the data stream. They should be the same, or very close to the same.
