Rubicrawler for $1400

I have the opportunity to purchase a used (apx 15k miles) Rubicrawler from the second owner. It’ll come with the 42RLE it’s attached to.

$1400

I have the 241 installed but have yet to wheel it.

Looking for opinions on how “worth it” the Rubicrawler is

TIA

For a 231, I wouldn't add a RC since the 7.44:1 gearing is silly and you'd already have 2.71:1

For a 241, I wouldn't add a RC for anything other than the 2.72:1 to go faster in trails since 10.88 is silly

$1400 for a 42RLE and RC is a no brainer imo, but I'm a bit biased since I have that setup with a 241 and like it. The Atlas would be even better, but that's more of a dream at this point.

Out west in non technical wheeling, I've found the 4:1 241 gearbox to be OK for stretches in 5th gear where you want to do ~20mph between lower speed obstacles. Eventually you'll just want to stop and switch to 4Hi though. Would 2.72:1 change that for me? Probably not.

It changed things for me, but it's not worth comparing since the RC doesn't work with your manual. It replaces the tail housing of the 42RLE.

This is the type of opinions I’m looking for. My thoughts are I would use the 2.72-1 pretty often for the trails I’m on. The 4-1 for the rocks and technical stuff.
It seems the 7.44-1 is just too low?? For rocks??
I’m going to buy it but not sure if I’ll install it before running the 241 without it for a bit.

$1400 is a good price

There are no indicators that you are delivering too much torque to the axles. The chassis doesn't torque over, the engine doesn't bog a little, nothing to tell you to back out of it before you break something. We've warned folks many times in JV to stay out of low low and yet they persist. Then they snivel about how much stuff they break. If you aren't going to use it on rocks, then where?

This is the answer I’m looking for.
