I'm wondering what the best rpm setting for my 3 speed automatic transmission, when I go from park to reverse or neutral to either drive or reverse it hits pretty hard, when driving though the trans shifts very very smooth, wondering if revs too high or linkage issue, I'm idling at 750rpm now

That's pretty much right in terms of RPM, but that's set by the computer/IAC, not the transmission. Check your fluid level (while in N, with engine running). Could be the low/reverse band adjustment, but it would have to be pretty freaking hard shift for me to worry too much about it.

I think mine idles a little lower than that when warm. Have you checked for vacuum leaks, and is your idle air control (IAC) nice and clean?
