If you pay attention to ALL the words I use, the opinion is only there if you want it to be by careful selective absorbtion on your end, or you're trying to espouse a viewpoint from an indefensible position.

In all honesty, I wasn't. I've been here long enough to see your posts as being all over the place. Plus I know you're a big advocate for aluminum. So maybe I was expecting more than what I got. For that, I give you credit where it's due.

You joke, but I'm really happy with how little the custom mini boatside rockers hit anything in Moab. Comparing these to the roughly same profile genrights (but with the step) last time - my contact is significantly reduced which, assuming similar lines, translates to traction opportunity.

I don't give a shit about forum approval, I like making my jeep work better.

Anyway, I'll update my thread with my observations this week.

You can build your rig however you want. You don’t need my approval. In the real world there are superior and inferior designs on a continuum. Everyone is free to use what works for them. I am honest and assess my moderately modified JCR’s as an improvement over the original design because they are no longer expanding holes of ill-designed thru bolts. But they could still be improved if they had higher clearance. At least we should admit that while something is working for us that does not mean it is the best design or will work for others.

Not specifically, no. At least not to my recollection.

I'm not gonna get roped into another 'Structurally Sound Rock Sliders' thread. Although five years after that thread I can say that I've still not had any body rust or tub issues. Over 15 years running the PS now........ Hooked on phonics worked for me. 🤪

No one should speak in absolutes. No one should ignore the proven experiences of others. You again, are welcome to run whatever you like. Others may like a heads up that if they intend to use certain products there are some things that may not be included in their value system.

I certainly wasn't the impetus behind several folks having me swap out their PS stuff to something with more fasteners in better locations. You may not like that but you can't change that we did it and why.

You also can't change that using the body mounts to try and trap the lower edge of the rock rail is never a good idea.

Not even you can say this is a good way to do something, can you?

I weighed my PS rock sliders. With full steps, both, together, weigh 70 lbs.

Like the rest of my armor, etc, it's steel and I don't care. Nth degree, rock hard 4X4, Garvin, poison Spyder, all steel, all heavy, IDGAF. Lol 🤣

I had those exact same sliders for years. They take the abuse but they have that big ol' honkin' 6" step. I got pretty good at using them while against the rocks. I could pivot around them etc.

Then I installed the 3/16" (steel) mini-boatsides we had made/partially fabbed. Added the rub rail below the door.

The big difference I've experienced is that now I don't even hit half the rocks that I used to. Add in the raised body mounts with the smaller cups and it really comes together. You can't hit what isn't there. I don't get hung up on the sliders anywhere near what I used to. Experience will show, you just don't know what you don't know. Once you make that change, it's really eye opening to how much easier it is to get through certain obstacles where I used to previously get hung up. Pritchett Canyon showed that quite well (somebody has a picture or video).

I wish I was more composed in this same position and took a picture out the driver side. But these are the scuffs from a similar line. I've been waiting to clean the Jeep to see where all I made contact. I'm not 100% sure these were on that feature, but either way - it's minimal.

The pivoting BS is precisely that. The only reason guys get excited about dragging the big tubes over things is because it is unavoidable by their mere existence. Using them as a feature to pivot the Jeep over stuff is nothing more than justification for excess bulk.

I saw similar things happening with bumpers, except that no one would argue that a bigger bumper was a feature by virtue of it getting in the way of things.

Folks do the same with steering. If you show them a pic of upper and lower links and the uppers are 2/3rds the length of the lowers, everyone wants to know what's wrong with you and why you did it that way. Show them a front steering set up with the end of the trackbar inside the spring for WJ steering and everyone is all "cool", I like your steering.

Try as I might, I still am unable to convince folks that tube steps on mini boatsides negate the reason to have boatsides.
