Here I am at 65 living a great life of trips in the west where we lived until recent. Jeeps, backpacking, traveling, trucks, bikes, PWC's. I always told myself ahhhh..I dont need to take pics, I'll remember the trip. Yeah some of them I do, but damn, not like I hoped. Things have become cloudy, trips I forgot, places Ive seen. I have very few, and now regret not taking pics as Im getting older. There were no smart phones like we have today to make it easy. So take it from a aging outdoorsman, take pics of the trips, the family, the friends. One day you'll surely regret you never did.

I can relate and I understand. However, there is line that can get crossed where the picture becomes more important than the experience and times when you miss something because you were looking through a lense or at a camera screen.

Like I said, I can relate......

My memory fades, but I don't want to forget
I am reminded I was there, but it is not so clear
As they continue to talk, it sounds familiar, things are starting to click

So many great trips, where and who was there
Places were seen, and people were met
When I was young, I thought this was a time I would never forget

What a sight it was, do you remember that
Yes, it was you and me
You were there, don't you remember, it was your idea.

We dreamt what was to be
Then we turned dreams to memories
As I age and my memory fades, I want to be reminded that I would do it all again.

I’m considering trying a 360 cam next year. Let it run and see what it all captures without much interaction.

I’ve used GoPros and when they aren’t overheating they are pointed the wrong way.

Video quality is good enough now for still frame grabs.

I always heard that pictures were for seeing what you missed while you were there, busy taking pictures. ;)

And I must admit, there have been a few times when I saw something interesting in a picture which I never noticed while I was there.

I have my hundreds (thousands?) of landscape pictures running as a screensaver on my computer. Sometimes I don't bother to wake it up, I just sit and watch for a while - work can wait.

I always try to take as many photos as possible. One day the kids will appreciate it I think. We make a habit every summer of taking a family photo (my profile picture) just so we can see how everyone has grown over the years. The kids hate it but I tell them one day they're going to be very happy we do this.

I never owned a camera until later in life and I wish I capture some of the stuff I did and built. I rebuilt or modded several vehicles and do not have any pictures. I traveled to many places and country's scuba diving and exploring and never took a photo. I built competition stereos back in the 80s and won some competition but do not have a single picture of my set ups. The only pictures I have now is some that people sent me after finding me on Facebook.
But on the other hand, I'm glad cameras were not around on some of the stuff I was involved in.

Not a picture guy but I find that as I get older it’s worth it to document disassembly of a project so I can see how to put it back together. Also because of my ADD projects can sit for a few days while I’m chasing squirrels.
Now where did that blue wire go?

Yep - take a picture before, and at strategic points during, disassembly. I love digicams!
