I've found that my rear diff is actually what making the noise I thought was the NV3550 in my 04 Rubicon, pinion bearings are gacked to the 9's. Sooo, anyone have any shop reccomendations in the Ogden, UT to Salt Lake City, UT area? Also, what is an average price to get the rear end rebuilt, assuming the gearset is shot as well. The locker/LSD seems to do LSD things so I'm assuming its alive still but probably could use a washing. The locker locks too. Thoughts?

I’d post up some pics of the gears and see what the forum thinks about whether they need to be replaced or not. They’re honestly pretty resilient and have a chance of still being usable despite being poorly controlled by bad bearings.

If all you end up needing is a simple rebuild job of just new bearings, pinion seal and crush sleeve, that’s really not that big of a deal and shouldn’t cost too much for someone who knows what they’re doing. I could rebuild an axle in a few hours working at a decent pace. I end up wasting more time in stupid shit like forgetting to put the outer pinion bearing in place before hammering in the seal or other out of sequence mistakes. But none of it is difficult to do, just needs tools. I can’t advise what a shop may charge for just a rebuild but they will probably exaggerate how difficult it is and charge the same or similar to what a regear would cost, even if they aren’t setting up new gears.

Ended up finding a shop. for labor, master rebuild and a new R&P they quoted about 2k. Not exactly cheap but a good reputable shop from both reviews and some referrals. I had them tear it apart to see if the R&P are toast and they were. both the pinion and the ring gear had spalling on the drive side so I told them to go ahead on the new Yukon 4.10 R&P. Coast side looked acceptable but being as this is going to be my daily and I'll probably replace the transmission, rebuild the engine and transfer case, i figured that a new R&P isn't bad. Checked the prices on parts and its looking like they're basically the same (within 10 bucks) of the price I can order them from Yukon Gear myself.

Let the shop order the parts. That way it's harder for them to wiggle out of any warranty issues

100% the plan. they're ordering and installing. just a price check to make sure I'm not paying a days wages extra on a part I can order myself.

Can anyone inform me if that's the thick cut ring gear or the regular one?

If it is a rubicon it will be thick cut. Let the shop figure it out
